William Hyson Jr. Obituary

William (Bill) Franklin Hyson Jr. age 79, passed away September 18, 2011 at home after a lengthy battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife of nearly sixty years, Thelma (Sullenberger) Hyson, daughters Irene (Glen) Higgins and Margaret of Provo, Utah, a son William, six grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister Edna (Michael) Imbler of Tallahassee, Florida. He was preceded in death by two sons, James and David, and by two brothers, Charles and George. A sister Carol (Gene) Morton also preceded him in death. Bill was born in Core, West Virginia on July 15, 1932 to William Franklin and Edna Pearl (Cohen) Hyson, both of whom preceded him in death. Bill grew up in rural Pennsylvania and enlisted in the Army in 1950. He served two tours in the Korean Conflict and two in Vietnam. He was stationed in Germany and Alaska and at several bases in the "Lower 48." He retired from Fort Carson in 1973. He was dedicated to the military and served his country well. After retiring from the Army, Bill became a volunteer with the Boy Scouts of America. He served in many positions over the years. He thoroughly enjoyed working "day camps" with the cub scouts. He later became a Scoutmaster and was very proud that his grandson James Taylor is an Eagle Scout. Bill worked as a volunteer at the National Jamboree at A.P. Hill in 1997. He enjoyed watching his little cub scouts grow into fine young men who then brought their sons into the scouting program. Bill loved taking trips in his motor home with his grandchildren and was looking forward to taking his great grandchildren fishing. They were saving pennies in a special bank for the big fishing trip. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Friday, September 30, 2011, at Dove-Witt Funeral Home, 6630 S.
