Tyson W. Phillips, 94 of Sterling passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 14, 2025, with his loving wife by his side. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, June 20 at Halouska Family Chaney-Reager Funeral Home with Rev. Spencer Green officiating. Inurnment with military honors to follow at Riverside Cemetery.
Tyson was born April 6, 1931, in Sterling, Colorado to William and Christena (Budin) Phillips. He graduated from Sterling High School and then enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in the early 1950's as a technical training instructor. After being honorably discharged, he worked as a civil service instructor and later became a technical representative for Martin Marietta on the Titan I and II missile weapons systems, training Air Force Missile launch crews in Denver, CO, Wichita Falls, TX, Moses Lake, WA, Mountain Home, ID and Vandenberg Air Force base in California.
Tyson married the love of his life, Gloria D. Ogley on April 22, 1951, in Sterling, CO. They spent 74 years together. In the late 1960's, they bought a farm and ranch west of Sterling and made it their home until they retired in 1984. They moved into town where they built a new home. Tyson served two terms as county commissioner, representing the 3rd District in Logan County. He was also a part-time crop adjuster for several years and finally retired completely in 1994.
Tyson was a lifetime member of the BPOE Lodge #1336, longtime member of the Sterling Masonic Lodge #54, A.F. & A.M., Sterling Lions Club and Willard United Methodist Church. He also volunteered with the Hospice of the Plains for several years.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his sister Barbara Nichols.
Tyson is survived by his wife Gloria, son Rick (Rhonda) Phillips of Casper, WY; grandchildren Cary (Tina) Phillips of Circle, WY and Rikki (Jake) France of Maryland; 10 great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, special care givers Chuck (Lois) Ogley and several other nieces and nephews.
Contributions may be made in Tyson's memory to Sterling Elks Lodge or Willard United Methodist Church.

Even though I have been away from Sterling for many years, knowing and working with Tyson was super. He was very thoughtful and could be funny as well. He has his wings now. God´s speed...Mike McCormick
