Antonio Gibson Obituary

Antonio "Tony" Gibson passed away peacefully as a result of brain cancer on August 23, 2014. He was born in Portland, Oregon on October 26, 1940.

Tony moved to Colorado Springs 37 years ago; having lived in Idaho, California, and New Mexico, as well as several years in Chicago. He was an outdoorsman through and through. He left Nampa, Idaho after high school to begin his career as a ski-patrolman, writer, photographer and fisherman. He met his wife, Judy Wilson in Taos, New Mexico where they both worked in the ski area. They were married in Chicago in 1964. Tony graduated with a degree in photo-journalism from the University of Missouri. After several years writing for different magazines in Chicago, Tony's love of the outdoors lead him to Colorado.

Tony Gibson possessed a great gift for storytelling, and his life's adventures and varied careers provided lots of material! He wrote for the Colorado Springs Sun and other publications for many years. Tony ended his life on earth doing what he loved; owning and operating Colorado Fishing Adventures.

Tony is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Judy; his daughters: Katy Douthit and Liz Gibson Vargas (Arturo); grandchildren: Buster, Emerson and Arturo; half-brother, Earl McGee of Burns, Oregon; and numerous cousins.

A celebration of life will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 13, 2014 at Vista Grande Community Church, 5460 North Union Boulevard. A reception will follow services.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to VIBES (Visually Impaired Blind Skiers), c/o Diane Fitzkee, 2 Fountain Place, Manitou Springs, Colorado 80829.

Tony, my love, we know what fun you are having at the Great Fishing Hole in the sky! Save a few for us.

I can't believe it has been ten years since Tony left us, and you are still missed my friend. You and Gary were the best of Colorado Fishing Adventures, and I'm sure you are together enjoying many happy memories. Judy, I hope you are doing well.

Sincerely,
Dave

Tony was the oldest of all the "cousins" from our Basque mothers, the seven Ocamica girls. I always looked up to Tony and loved his stories. He's the reason I started skiing and to the day I die it will be my favorite hobby. Thank you Tony - Miss you!

Dear Judy, I will never forget my cousin. He was the first one of the Ocamica girls children and I've always felt we were a special clan and my many cousins were very special to me. Tony inspired my life time passion for skiing. Everytime I ski now I'll think of him. We love you!

Judy and family,
I am so sorry I'll be unable to attend Tony's services today. Tony was a dear friend and a great fishing buddy. We had wonderful times on local waters for trout and the Yucatan for bonefish. Colorado Fishing Adventures had a great and "people friendly" leader in Tony for many years. Tony's care for his guides and toward all his acquaintances made him a friend to all. We will miss his wit and story telling for years to come, and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him. My thoughts and prayers are with the family at this difficult time. God bless you . . .
