Bruce Berner Obituary

Bruce Carl Berner, a 1959 graduate of Harrison High School, entered the Marine Corps at age 17 and served for four years. He returned to Colorado Springs and began bartending, which eventually led him to owning the Black Forest Inn. He married "Kelly" Carol Rhyne in 1974. After five years in Baton Rouge, they returned to Black Forest and built their dream log home. He loved spending time with family, friends, fishing, hunting, boating, antiquing, traveling in a motor home, a "good party" and above all, talking to ANYONE. Quoting Will Rogers, Bruce, "never met a man he didn't like." He will be remembered for his love of family, sense of humor and telling long stories. Bruce passed away after a four year fight with pulmonary fibrosis. He was a member of CS Elks Lodge #309, Roaming Elks, Grassroots Cribbage Club and Black Forest A.A.R. P. He ran for County Commissioner in 2006 in District #2. Bruce is survived by his wife, Kelly; son, Ben; daughter-in-law, Sarah; granddaughter, Morgan and sibling, Bob Berner. Services will be at the family home, 12820 Porcupine Lane, June 25th at 1:00PM. Celebration of his life will follow.
