CARROLL JAY "SWEDE" MURPHY
January 15, 2019
C.J. Murphy, "Swede" to all who knew him well, age 79, died January 15, 2019 in Fort Collins after a several-month battle with Guillain-Barre Syndrome and a brief bout with lung cancer.
Swede was born in Colorado Springs, CO to William and Lucille Murphy. He grew up in Manitou Springs, graduated from Manitou High School and served in the U. S. Navy. He married Sandy Bennett on August 18, 1962 in Colorado Springs, where they called home for nearly all his life. He and Sandy moved to Loveland in 2018.
Swede worked as a Farmers Insurance agent for over 50 years. He kept active playing tennis and golf and was a longtime member of the Country Club of Colorado.
He is survived by his wife, Sandy; two daughters, Staci (Chris) Miller of Fort Collins and Melissa Murphy of Denver; and two grandsons, Adam and Ryan Miller.
During the course of his illness, Swede received excellent care from several facilities. His family would like to thank his caregivers at Memorial Hospital and Cheyenne Mountain Rehabilitation Center in Colorado Springs, Northern Colorado LTACH in Johnstown and The Suites in Fort Collins.
