January 17, 2023

Christine M. Baumgartner passed away on January 17, 2023, at Penrose Hospital in Colorado Springs. Born in Rome, New York, on October 19, 1940, to Fannie and Walter Lauber, she grew up in northern New York and graduated from Westmoreland Central High School. Christine lived in Switzerland – where she married in 1964 – New Jersey, and Maryland before moving with her young family to Colorado in 1973. She was an active church member during her life, worked as a local election official, a volunteer at Penrose Hospital, the PTA, Doherty High School, and a substitute teacher at Penrose Elementary. Christine worked for Lloyd's of London in Switzerland, Revere Ware Copper and Brass in New York, and Walter Drake and Kohl's in Colorado Springs. She was the Super Mom of four children – Peter, David, and Matt Baumgartner, and Karen Nedbal – and was preceded in death by her husband, Kurt Baumgartner, and brothers Walter Lauber and Wayne Beer. In addition to her children, Christine is survived by her stepfather Bruno Beer, son-in-law Bob Nedbal, daughters-in-law Venera Djumataeva and Susan Nolan, grandchildren Ermek Djumataev and Erkaiym Djumataeva, Molly the cat, and a multitude of friends. An avid fan of Colorado's professional sports teams, her favorite sport was tennis. Christine had a lifelong passion for cats and dogs. An excellent cook of American and German/Swiss fare, she was also a loyal viewer of the game show Jeopardy. Her family thanks the excellent staff at Pikes Peak Hospice for its care of Christine. A memorial service will be held at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in the spring, followed by burial at Evergreen Cemetery in New York. In lieu of flowers please send donations to the Pikes Peak Hospice or St. Paul's United Methodist Church.

Aunt Chris was so special, so generous and kind. I remember her making us `giggle milk´ when she watched us as kids. We enjoyed Limburger sandwiches together as adults! A couple precious times she came to our farm (she always had to visit so many folks while in NY). And I will always cherish the memory of the time I visited her in Colorado and she took me ALL over! We had lots of laughs and love. Rest In Peace dear aunt. Love, Joleen

Terribly sorry for your loss. I adored your mom to no end. She was always so nice to me. I remember when all of us went trick or treating one year and she let me borrow her gloves with the condition I do not wipe my runny nose on them! Of course being a stupid kid, I did just that but she said nothing when I returned them to her. I will never forget that and how awesome she was. Truth be told, I frequently think of your entire family. My heart goes out to all of you!
