February 18, 2026

Clarence William "Bill" Ickes passed away February 18, 2026, at age 83. He was born March 10, 1942, in Del Norte, Colorado to Robert and Florence (Werner) Ickes. He had one brother, Tom Ickes of Montrose. Bill grew up in Saguache and attended Saguache High School. He attended Trinidad State College for one year before joining the United States Navy from 1962-1966. He served on the submarine USS Volador with the Seventh Fleet in the Western Pacific.
Following the Navy, he returned home and attended Western State College, and the University of Northern Colorado to obtain his degree in Education.
Bill met his wife, Nancy Scheid, at Western State College. They were married June 8, 1968, in Keenesburg. They lived in Hudson while he finished his degree at UNC. They moved to Saguache where he taught industrial arts at the high school.
They moved to Colorado Springs in 1972 where they raised their two children, Michelle and Robert. He worked for Kaman Sciences and ITT as a machinist from 1972 until his retirement in 2006. He and Nancy enjoyed travelling and spending time with their grandchildren in their retirement.
Bill was an extraordinary woodworker and made many pieces of beautiful furniture, gunstocks, long bows, and even a kayak and a canoe. He liked to hunt and fish and was an avid outdoorsman. He was often behind the camera and was the "official" family photographer. He was a lifelong creator, learner, and earned his pilot license. He was curious and could fix just about anything. He attended Community Congregational Church in Manitou and sat on the Board of Trustees in 2018 and participated in Kiwanis. He was a quiet thinker that loved a good laugh!
His wife, Nancy, predeceased him in 2025.
He leaves behind his children Michelle (Bob) Stellick and Robert Ickes, his three grandchildren Anna, Emery, and Owen, his brother Tom (Karen) Ickes and his family, and many friends.
Celebration of Life services will be held Saturday, March 7, 2026, 11:00 AM at Garden of the Gods Trading Post Conference Center, 324 Beckers Ln., Manitou Springs, CO 80829.
