January 25, 2026
Margaret Beata Flynn, age 94, passed away on January 25, 2026 at home after a brief illness. In mid-2025, Margie and her beloved dog, Rizzo, relocated from her long-time home in Colorado Springs to live with her daughter and family in Phoenix.
Margie was born in
Dodgeville, Wisconsin to Robert and Julia Moore on November 29, 1931, the third youngest of 9 children. A brilliant student at St. Joseph parochial school, she graduated from high school at St. Rose Convent in LaCrosse, Wisconsin. Fun fact: She then attended Viterbo College while becoming a Novice at the convent. She fell ill with rheumatic fever and was deemed "not strong enough" to continue in the life of a nun - which turned out to be a good thing for her three daughters and grandchildren. Her devotion to her faith continued and she married John Flynn on May 8, 1954.
Margie shared wonderful stories of growing up in a big family in a small town. She and John were married for 68 years. They traveled the world during John's Air Force career and continued to travel with gusto during retirement, racking up memories and lasting friendships along the way.
Margie's background was in banking and after having children, she became a stay-at-home mom. In Stuttgart, Germany in the early 1970s, she was involved with many activities, especially the Red Cross where she coordinated volunteers throughout USEUCOM. Returning to live in Colorado Springs in 1975, she went back to accounting, working for various car dealerships as office manager and auto sales tax guru for 35 years. She and John enjoyed Air Force Academy sports and their AF Football tailgate parties were legendary among a large group of friends. They had season tickets for Falcon football, basketball, and hockey for 43 years. Margie was an avid reader, enjoyed Bridge and played a mean game of Cribbage. She could often be found on the golf course and loved travel golf trips with her sisters and their spouses. She and a couple dear friends continued to play 9 holes at Patty Jewett until the summer of 2022.
Margie had an incredible sense of style and never crossed the threshold without looking runway ready and hair done. She loved her daughters fiercely, as well her grandchildren: Colin, Carley, Emma, Logan, Duncan, Ryan. We miss her beautiful smile, quick wit and unconditional love.
Margie is preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Julia Moore; siblings, Katherine Anderson, Robert J. Moore, Thomas C. Moore, Mary Singer, Colleen Burns & JoAnn Hohler; her son-in-law, Craig Roberts, and grandson, Colin Shumate. She is survived by sisters Carol Gates and Jan Schwingle (Kenneth); daughters Lisa Liddy (Joseph), Lori Shumate, and Kelly Roberts; and grandchildren Carley, Emma, Logan, Duncan (Jenna), and Ryan; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service and interment will be August 8th in
Dodgeville, Wisconsin. Memorial donations may be made to TESSA, 435 Gold Pass Heights, 80906
