Danford Barney Obituary

Dan and I served in the Army together. We met November 1979 while we were both assigned to HHB 72nd Field Artillery Brigade at Peden Barracks in Wertheim Germany. We worked together on the Nuclear Surety Inspection Team. Dan was a good friend and was instrumental in my receiving the Army Commendation Medal. Many hugs to his family.

I was a Co-worker with Dan in Germany in 1980 Augsburg Vii Corps Artillery Command HQ , his deep harmony for life magnetized those around him. My most compassionate sorrow is given to the family. Even after 34 years Danford Newton Barney comes to mind with many fond memories of our time together in the Army.

Dearest Lori and family - as I have walked through the past couple of weeks in only imagining what you are going through, my heart was and is filled with sadness at the loss of such a wonderfully kind and generous gentleman and fellow paratrooper. Dan touched my heart as a co-worker at Evercare Hospice and allowed me to continue on my journey of letting go of those who were in my care for a time and allowed me to hand over those patients to him as they came into hospice. Two different times stay close to my heart. Both times, it became obvious due to circumstances that it would be a couple of days before these people were admitted so I followed them with the heart that I have always had for hospice. Once they signed their admission papers, both times, Dan physically met me where I was with the patient and verbally said, "Robin, you have done your best. Now it is time for me to take over." He gave me the gift of permission to let go knowing that the rest of the team, starting with him, would be right there for this very precious patient that needed us at that time. Thank you, Dan Barney, for always showing me that you would take the baton/torch and be there for the patient and their family as I went onto the next person. What a gift you were to me, the Evercare team, the healthcare community and to all the patients and families who were blessed to have you as their social worker. I thank God for you and look forward to the day I see you again in heaven. To Lori and family, as I am sure you know, what a special husband, father, grandfather and all other hats he wore you had. My prayer is that you take comfort in the memories that you have and that each memory will give you a smile as bright as Dan's always was. Fondly

Lori and Andrew and family so sorry for your loss. Danny was my step brother as Andrew is. Haven't ever got the chance to meet the rest of the family. But Danny was so great to my brother and I when we were kids and met our step bros and sisters. He made an impact on my life back then.I pray for everyone that you all know he's in heaven w the rest of his family and they are watching over all of us.

Dan will always be remembered with a smile on his face. He was such a kind and supportive coach to Shawn when we first moved to town. We are so very sorry for your loss.

Dan and Lori impressed me as a couple who lived life with intentional purpose and a will to make a positive difference in this world. Dan was a great person. It was my privilege to know the Barneys. I wish Lori and the family peace, comfort, and a sense of knowing they are deeply loved by friends and family during this time of loss and transition.

Lori, our deepest sympathies in this tragic time. Dan was an amazing man and a good friend. We will miss his humor and positive outlook on all things. We know that he is with God now. May God hold you in the hollow of his hand.
