Edward Tanner Obituary

Edward W. "Ned" Tanner, of Rio Verde, Arizona, passed away at his home in the early morning hours of November 10, 2013. Born on May 22, 1925, in Kansas City, Missouri, Mr. Tanner was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving at age 18 on a destroyer escort chasing submarines in the North Atlantic. Graduating from the University of Kansas shortly after the war, Mr. Tanner married his wife of 65 years, Janet Taylor, in 1948. The couple had a son Ward in 1950 and daughter Lori in 1952.

A partner of accounting firm KPMG Mr. Tanner developed and led an employee benefits consulting division in KPMG's Kansas City office. Among his numerous charitable activities he was a volunteer for the Crippled Children Easter Seal Society, Visiting Nurses Association, United Funds Campaigns and Children's Mercy Hospital. He was a member of Kansas City's University Club, Mission Hills Country Club, and Kansas City Country Club. Following his retirement to Colorado Springs, and subsequently Rio Verde, he was a member of the Garden of the Gods Club and Rio Verde Country Club.

Mr. Tanner leaves his loving and devoted wife Janet, daughter Lori Zedaker; son Ward Tanner, daughter-in-law Alexa Tanner, and grandsons Zachary and Joshua Tanner.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to the Colorado Springs Symphony.
