Emanuel Thomas, Jr. was the second child of seven kids born to Mr. Emanuel, Sr. and Beatrice (Woodard) Thomas. Emanuel, Jr. was born in Elizabeth, Louisiana in 1938. His two sisters were Betty Jean Thomas and Carolyn Fay Thomas. His four brothers were Donald Ray Thomas, Charles L. Thomas, Roy V. Thomas, and Alvin G. Thomas.
Emanuel, Jr.'s parents moved from Louisiana to Houston, Texas in 1941, and he and all his sibling grew up in Houston. He graduated from Phillis Wheatley High School in Houston, Texas in 1956.
After working a few unenjoyable jobs, he joined the U.S. Army in 1959 and served twenty-two years before retiring. He was such a great golfer that he was given a job as manager of the Fort Carson Golf Course for about eleven years in Colorado Springs, the same golf course he played while in the army. He was a great golfer, and he was also a great bowler. Really, he was a great athlete. Emanuel, Jr. was also a very sociable person, he loved people and had multiple bowling friends in his early days and multiple golf friends in his later days.
After retiring from being manager of the Fort Carson Golf Course, he played a lot of golf here at Fort Carson and in Houston with his brothers and other friends; those were very enjoyable times.
Only three brothers, Donald Ray, Charles Leslie, and Roy Vinson Thomas are the survivors of the Thomas family.
We are truly missing him since his passing on Monday, August 13, 2018.
God bless our brother! Emanuel Thomas, Jr. was a great, great golfer, and he said "Old golfers never die, they just lose their balls!".
