Ernest Glenn Montgomery, LTC US Army Ret., passed away in his home on September 17, 2023. "Monty" was born on November 14, 1924, to Hattie (Knowles) Montgomery and Samuel Ernest Montgomery in Sterling, Oklahoma. On September 9, 1951, he married Helen Josephine Polito in Brooklyn, New York. He was drafted into the US Army in March 1944 and retired in September 1973, and settled in Colorado Springs. Monty fought in three wars – World War II, Korea, and Vietnam. After retirement, he pursued his hobbies of woodworking, machining and housebuilding. This led Monty to his main passion: building a log cabin in Creede, Colorado for his wife and family. He was a lifelong member of the Methodist Church and a member of the Masonic Lodge #13 and Scottish Rite of Free Masonry, 32 Degree.
Monty is survived by his children: Robert Glenn (Debbie) Montgomery, and Mary Ellen Montgomery; and his granddaughter, Meghan Montgomery. He is preceded in death by his wife, Helen, in 2019.
A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 27, 2023, at the Shrine of Remembrance, 1730 E. Fountain Blvd., Colorado Springs, CO 80910. He is to be buried at Pikes Peak National Cemetery, 10545 Drennan Road, Colorado Springs, CO 80925 with military honors at noon on that day. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Shriners Hospital is preferable, as it was our father's favorite charity.

Your dad was a friend to my dad, a wealth of information and a man of many skills! What a long life he had that touched many people. I Can still hear his hearty laugh!
