Frederick Fletemeyer Memoriam

Fletemeyer
Frederick Irwin Fletemeyer
June 10, 1920 - January 27, 2018
Ready and waiting for his "final graduation," Fred finished life here below as a faithful believer in Jesus his Savior. He enjoyed a full life and lived in his own home up to his last day. Till the end, he was witty, sharp of mind, and interested in the eternal welfare of everyone he met.
Fred was respected and loved by many in the Springs since moving from Detroit in 1955. He founded Fletemeyer Construction and built many churches, schools, and corporate buildings, including the Velodrome Olympic Center in Memorial Park.
Fred received his Civil Engineering degree from the University of Illinois in 1942. He enlisted in the US Navy shortly after graduation, and in August of the following year he married Martha Louise Zelt ("the most beautiful girl in all of Indiana" and the love of his life). He soon answered the call of duty to serve in the South Pacific as an Ensign with the 101st US Naval Construction Battalion (Seabees). Because he graduated from Culver Military Academy (preparatory school) Fred was commissioned as an officer. He has always been a leader. He served on Saipan and Okinawa, and after "VJ Day" he returned to his wife and young son Frederick I. Fletemeyer Jr.
Fritz and Marty (as they were affectionately known by their friends) had two other sons, James Kenneth, and John Alan. Survivors include Fred, Jim and John, their wives, 8 grandchildren and spouses, 16 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his brother Richard George Fletemeyer. Fred was preceded in his homegoing by his wife Martha, his sister Gloria, brother James (in childhood), and his parents Frederick Rudolph and Hulda Marie (Irmscher) Fletemeyer.
Fred didn't want a list of his accomplishments posted here. Rather he would echo the song: "To God Be the Glory - Great Things He Has Done." Fred's memorial service will be Saturday, February 3rd at 11:00 AM at the Northeast Bible Chapel in Colorado Springs.

I worked for Fletemeyer as a young carpenter in 1978-1979 time period and was fortunate to work on the Olympic rings when the Olympic headquarters came to Colorado Springs.
He was a caring and devoted boss.

What a precious brother in Christ. You taught my sons tremendous lessons in Sunday School and in your employ when they were teenagers. You taught me what a great Christian man looks like as he walks daily with his Lord. I just heard about your passing, Fred, but I will see you and greet you with great joy when we enjoy our common/uncommon Lord together with so many others. Thank you so much for your support and encouragement through bleak days as I struggled to learn more about the God I had just come to know.

Most characterized as a man who loved God and sought to spread His love and generosity to all those around him; Fred was always kind and warm to me and my family. Fred, thank you for teaching me more about caring for others, hospitality, generosity, and good humor! Thank you to Jim and all the Fletemeyer Family for allowing me the pleasure of knowing your Dad! May your sorrow be turned to joy knowing Fred and Martha are in His eternal presence!

A teacher, friend and wonderful human example of what we can be. The love Fred extended to me and my family over the years, was truly A blessing. Fred was truly a man who lived as Jesus Christ would have us all live. What a true blessing it was to have known him.
