George Allen Eckhardt was born in Worland, Wyoming. His early years were spent in the Cody, Powell area growing up on the Two Dot feedlot. George graduated from the University of Wyoming and obtained a Master's Degree from Colorado State University. After working for 14 years at the Colorado Fuel and Iron Steel mill in Pueblo, he accepted a position at Colorado College as Assistant Director of Facilities. Later he became Campus Planner. His responsibilities at Colorado College kept him active for 40 years with historic preservation, renovations, construction, and preservation of the Van Briggle pottery legacy, as well as other community endeavors. Colorado College hockey games have been enjoyed by George and his entire family for those same 40 years. Fishing at Lizard Lake above Marble, Colorado, kept trout available for summer dinners.
George and Pam were married in 1975 and had two children, Scott Eckhardt and Katharina Groves. George's parents, George and Bonnie Eckhardt preceeded George in death. Brother Stuart and his wife Debbie Eckhardt reside in Powell, Wyoming. Sister Mary Elizabeth and husband Clint Grue reside in Terry, Montana. Six grandchildren were often visitors at the Eckhardt home. Various nieces and nephews were always welcome.
George's children describe their father as an amazing father and a selfless man of unusual integrity.
