Harvey Sims Obituary

Sims III
Harvey H. Sims III
1940 - 2018
Harv Sims (78) of Monument, Colorado, beloved husband of Barbara Sims, passed away on April 11, 2018 from pulmonary fibrosis.
Harv was born in 1940 in Detroit to Harvey and Mary Jane Sims. He grew up in La Habra, California. He played football in high school and for University of Washington. He graduated from San Diego State University and married Barbara Strutton from Claremont, CA in 1964.
He served briefly in the Marine Corps and served with Barb in the Dominican Republic in the Peace Corps. He taught, directed YMCA camps, and worked for over 30 years in Personnel and Human Resources at Hughes Aircraft and Aerojet General in CA, and TRW and CoBank in CO, among others, before retiring in 2002.
Harv then remodeled their home, went through EMT training, worked part time as a Cog Railway conductor, was the medical park ranger on Pikes Peak, and taught Basic Life Support through Memorial Hospital.
He was active in Monument Community Presbyterian Church. His hobbies included sailing, skiing, biking, motorcycles, fishing, flying drones and remote controlled helicopters, the Scottish Society and Highland Games, square dancing, genealogy, reading, history, and making wooden pendulum clocks.
Harv is survived by his wife, Barbara Sims; son, Derek Sims of West Jordan, UT (and his wife, Lisa and daughters, Grace and Ryann); daughter, Lara White of Colorado Springs, CO (and her husband, Amos; son, Malakai and daughter, Naomi); sister, Connie diGirolamo (Pete) of San Diego, CA; brother, Richard Sims (Tece) of Ventura, CA; foster sister, Marge Sabo (Walt) who now lives in Mexico; Barb's siblings, and many nieces and nephews. We will all miss his fun sense of humor and interesting stories.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 28, at 11:00 AM, at the Monument Community Presbyterian Church in Monument, CO. Memorial donations in Harv's name can be sent to MCPC, directed to the Capital Improvement Campaign or to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation.

Barb and family,
So sorry for your loss. I worked with Harvey at TRW. Wonderful man. Barb gave me my allergy shots for years. So sorry to hear this. You're all in my prayers!

My cousins and I were so lucky to have the opportunity to get to know Harvey at a mini reunion in June of 2016. What a great story teller and expert on Pike's Peak. He and Barb performed many story telling duets. We learned so much of their lifetime of adventures and travels and their joy from raising their 2 children. He is already missed for sure.

Rest high Harv
