James just crossed my mind, and I looked him up only to see this. We served together at Ft Carson. I considered him a good friend. We'd always bring stuff for lunch to out do the other one! ( And impress the old ladies ). Miss you Buddy!

James, I won't forget all of our running at Fort Jackson and your smile and sense of humor. I remembered how you made me laugh and found you have moved on to the best place ever. I think a little bit of heaven was with you all along anyway. Not many like sincere souls like you and I am glad to have known you.

Jay, I wish I could turn the clock back to this day.

I'll Tell You About James

1. James was the kind of friend that you often read about but rarely see in living color.
2. He was exceptionally smart and had an insatiable appetite for learning. He read an article once about electrolysis and the construction of a cathode to clean away rust. As I recall, with the process came some risk of explosion but within a couple of hours, he had my tools in an all-day day-spa and they came out the other end rust free……. and surprisingly supple.

3. James was the kind of guy that would make someone look smart even as he explained to them how to open Outlook. He tolerated me even though I don't know how predictive text works.

4. James was an excellent cook and had studied the Culinary Arts. He could take seemingly opposites and make them attract. I'm a fair cook but always played ignorant if James was in the house.

? As a side note, he had never tried orange Mountain Dew until I introduced it to him and shortly thereafter, it became a permanent addition to his 4 food groups.

5. I loved the fact that James came to love Schnauzers as much as I do, and that within 15 months he could even spell the word. I hate the fact that Max has been looking for James for over a week now and I see no end in sight.

6. James possessed other talents as well including photography. He probably could have pursued that path and been quite successful. Even some of his I-Phone pictures were masterpieces….on the other hand, He did take 150 pictures of Old Faithful in Yellowstone National Park in 2010. It's interesting but …I'm just saying.

7. James possessed scientific evidence that given 2 people, 2 air mattresses and 2 ends of a swimming pool it is possible to generate a wave large enough to significantly empty the pool and cause justified concern from neighbors not possessing flood insurance.

8. He was the kind of person that would wholly endorse doing 120 mph in his Moms car…. I thought we pulled that one off until the GPS record blew our cover.

9. He had a temper but rarely showed it outside of home and he never carried it to work. Occasionally a cork would blow and there would be an exchange of F-Bombs but this was random, usually short and most often occurred when he was loading the dishwasher for the 3rd time in a row. I'm not certain whether or not James appreciated it but his brother Matt and I got a kick out of it when I told him that I hoped he got dishpan hands.

10. James would not tolerate mixing colors with whites. In hind-site, I think he must have been doing his teeth with his socks.

11. He treated people as any one of us would want to be treated and he didn't always agree but he kept his end of the bargain, even if others did not.

12. During the Halloween costume contest in 2010, he wasn't wearing anything under his monks outfit.

13. James was into wine making which can be a bit laborious at times. He would spend weeks painstakingly preparing a new vinification and then he'd give it all away.

14. He worked long hours, he worked weekends, and he worked for people late at night that were in different time zones. It was rare for him to leave something broken unrepaired.

15. He was quick to volunteer his help and I never know of him telling someone no, even when that meant sacrificing his own personal time. I know there are many here now who have benefited from James “Pro Bono Geek Squad” moonlighting.

? Incidentally, I'm supervising those accounts now and our rates are changing.

16. James was honest to a fault; he did the right thing to the best of his ability and he let his conscious be his guide. He was also known to consume more chocolate than what he actually provided when Brent had an office in receiving.

17. James made friends easily because he himself was so easy to like and he did not participate in rumors. He didn't seek recognition but his self-esteem could be easily wounded by others, whether or not there was malice of intent.

18. He had the unique ability to brighten your day without ever speaking a word and he always helped others find the pot of gold at the end of their rainbows.

19. I completely loved James but I didn't completely understand him. What I do know is this:

a. He was loved and he made an impression on people
b. He was a friend-the kind you really miss when they're not around
c. He believed in the best in people

? And loving someone risks loss and sadness as Gods gifts are only on loan.
? James was representative of the best in people and just knowing him made the world a better place for me.

I meet James in Belgium, we were part of the same Crew that party until the Bars closed. We both had a love for cooking that we spend every weekend cooking for the Crew. Whether it was BBQ Turkey or grilled Zebra we cooked it.

He was truly a great Friend, a selfless individual who put everyone first. He never knew how to say NO when there was a friend in need.

I am very grateful to have met him and will treasure our friendship forever.

James, Thanx for all the times you listened to my problems, and I will always remember the Great times cooking we had. The beers we drank and the Lemon-cello we made and drank!

You were a GREAT Friend, I will miss you!
