JANICE COLLETTE DIVINE
July 6th, 1923 September 11th, 2018
Collette was born in Jackson, Michigan July 6, 1923, proceeded in death by her mother, Hazel Josephine (Clute) Divine; father, Alger Robert Divine; brother, Mahlon Alger Divine of Jackson, Michigan; brother, Harry Ray Divine of Colorado Springs; and former husband, Hubert M. Schreiner of Colorado Springs. She is survived by nieces, Marlon (Bill) Pawlak of Jackson, Michigan; Jackie (Ken) Daniels of Sebring, Florida; Janice (Tom) McCartney of Colorado Springs; and nephews, Gary (Bernice) Divine of Aurora, Colorado; Douglas (Donna) Divine of Ventura, California; several grand-nieces, grand-nephews, great-grand-nieces, great-grand nephews, cousins and many cherished friends.
Collette moved to Colorado Springs in 1947 to attend Colorado College in pursuit of vocal music training. She fell in love with the colorful Colorado Rockies and spent the rest of her life experiencing many of the adventures and opportunities this area provides. Her interests varied from panning for gold, trout fishing the streams and collecting minerals, all the while participating in her passion for music. She organized the Rocky Mountain Pitch Blenders, the first Sweet Adeline's chorus in Colorado Springs, precursor to the Velvet Hill Chorus, excelling in regional and national quartet competitions with her lifelong singing friends. For several years she traveled nationally with the several Big Bands as lead singer. Collette assisted the late Ms. Bonnie Fitzpatrick in the development of the original Dublin House Dinner Playhouse in the 1960s. Together the duo planned every detail from building plans to menus, carpet to chandeliers, staffing and entertainment, most often featuring Collette's singing talent. Collette traveled extensively, owned and operated Divine Antiques. She was a talented painter, gemologist and silversmith, designing and creating the Song Woman custom turquoise and silver jewelry line.
She accomplished what we all seek in this world, love of and for her Maker, family, friends and surroundings.
Now, joining her family and friends that passed on before, she is at rest and peace for eternity!
A memorial gathering will be scheduled.
