Jeffrey King Obituary

Dr. Jeffrey M. King, M.D. Dr. Jeffrey M. King, 65, of Visalia passed away at home on June 19th with his wife Patti at his side. He endured years of pain from primary amyloidosis and multiple myeloma but now is at peace. Dr. King was born in Massachusetts, the youngest of five children, and was raised by his widowed mother near Boston. He graduated with honors from M.I.T. in 1974 and then went on to medical school at UVM College of Medicine in Burlington, Vermont. Having enough of the cold New England winters, he did his internal medicine internship at Kern Medical Center in Bakersfield. Following a divorce, he sold his medical practice in Lake Isabella and moved to Three Rivers. It was then in 1990 that he met his wife Patti while they were both working in the emergency department at the old Visalia Community Hospital. In 1994 he began working in Tulare as a family physician and has had an office there ever since. Dr. King is survived by his wife Patti and children, step-daughter Melinda and husband Matthew of Fresno, step-son Brian and fiancée Kristin of Fresno, step-son Shawn of San Diego, and three cherished grandchildren. He is also missed by his two faithful furry companions. A Memorial service will be held Tuesday, June 26, 2012 at Salser and Dillard Funeral Chapel at 3:30 p.m. Private burial. Condolences may be e-mailed to [email protected]

Jeff was not only my doctor but was a good friend. I enjoyed that time I got to spend with him and our conversations. I learned a lot from him and he took great care of me and my family. He will be very much missed. I have known Jeff since his time in Lake Isabella. Somehow we have managed to follow each other as we moved throughout California.
My condolences to you Patti and your family. I am so sorry that Jeff is no longer with you in person but I am sure he is with you in spirit. He will never be forgotten.

Dear Patti and Family,

We will miss Jeff. He was a good and caring physician, and we are all better off for having known him and learned from him. I enjoyed working with him in Tulare for all these years. In earlier years I would see him every day at the office. More recently, I would meet up with him at the convalescent hospital making rounds. He'd always say "it must be the last day of the month, since we're here at the convalescent again". We shared a lot of common interests outside of medicine - radio controlled model planes, rockets and computers. I enjoyed bringing my RC glider over to your house and Jeff and I flew them on the street in your neighborhood without getting any complaints from the neighbors. One of the things he said that has stuck in my mind was "There's a very fine line between the science of rocketry and that of explosives and demolition". Another thing I remember is the enjoyment he got out of interviewing candidates in our local area for admission to his alma mater, MIT. He really got a kick out of the things the kids thought up to impress him in their interviews, like one kid who wore a propeller beanie cap. Another time we got his sage advise after finding a crow with an injured wing in our parking lot. I enjoyed flying in a full size glider with him over at Avenal, I think he would have done that some more if he did not have so many other interests and commitments, most important of which to him was you and your family.
I hope you can find comfort in knowing he is at peace, and that the world is a better place for his having been here with us.

My heart goes out to you at this time and in the days ahead. Dr King was the kindest, most compassionate man and doctor. Do you remember when he called a prescription to a pharmacy for my dog. It was on a Sunday when I couldn't find a vet anywhere. That was true compassion and I will really miss him. Should I be able to help you in any way, please let me know.
