To the Mitchell family (and especially to Joan)
Karla and I were privileged to serve in Berlin on numerous tours of duty(1961/1974-77/1986-91). Without question, our tour of duty during General Mitchell's tenure as the United States Commander, Berlin (USCOB) was one of the highlights of our 30+ years of Army duty.
As the USCOB,John Mitchell epitomized the role of what a Soldier/Stateman is supposed to be. He and Joan displayed Americana at its best, while always encouraging the Europeans(and the Soviets)to do what was right about Berlin. And to this day, we see the results! Our sympathy and prayers go out to the entire Mitchell family. We shall miss him.
