Joy Gendron Obituary

Joy Denise Gendron Sept 18, 1950 - Jul 14, 2007. Joy Denise Gendron, a lifelong resident of Colorado Springs, passed on July 14th 2007. Joy was born on September 18th, 1950 to Edward and Dene Gendron. She graduated from Cheyenne Mountain High School in 1968. She then went on to Drake University where she earned B.A. in 1972 and was a proud member of the Chi Omega Sorority. She loved Colorado Springs and lived by the philosophy given to her by her father: always give back to the community which has given you so much. She was a member of the Junior League and Cheyenne Mountain Zoo Auxiliary and many other charitable organizations throughout her life. She was instrumental in the conception and establishment of the annual Spring Spree celebration. Being a strong supporter of the theater and arts, she greatly valued the Colorado Springs Dance Theater and Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center. Always supportive in her sons' education, she dedicated many hours volunteering at Broadmoor Elementary School. Some of her many hobbies included games such as bridge and mahjong. Joy loved snow and water skiing, golf, and tennis and earned her PADI Open Water Scuba Diving certification. Her passion for sports led her to become a dedicated fan of the Air Force Falcons, Rockies, Avalanche, Nuggets, and most of all the Broncos. As a worldwide traveler, Joy had the good fortune to explore over 40 countries on 6 continents and passed this love on to her family and friends. "There is always more world to see," she would often say. She is survived by her son Drew Bennett, brother Brad Gendron and his wife Candace, sister Maryse Moore and her husband David, and companion David Krause. She was preceded in death by her parents and son Brian Bennett, Jr. She will be sorely missed by family, friends and others who benefited from knowing and loving her and whose lives she has touched. Services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday at Chapel of Our Saviour, 8 Fourth St. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in her name to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (Rocky Mountain Chapter), www.jdrf.org, 3710 Sinton Rd, Ste 220, Colorado Springs CO 80906.

I'm SO sorry to hear of Joy's passing. She and I were best friends at age 3 (and long after). I even have a picture of her at my 4th birthday party, wearing a cowgirl hat with fringe! My thoughts and prayers go out to her entire family. I will remember Joy with joy!
