Carolyn Sue Jenkins (Brown), lovingly known as "Susie," died on December 13, 2025, and went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Susie was born on August 26, 1943, in Colorado Springs, Colorado, to Dr. Homer Brown and Jeanette Brown. She grew up deeply rooted in the community she loved, attending Ivywild Elementary School, Cheyenne Mountain Junior High School, and Cheyenne Mountain High School. From an early age, she exhibited intelligence, curiosity, and a quiet strength that would define her life.
She went on to attend Colorado State University, where she earned a degree in Microbiology. Following her graduation, Susie began her professional career as a microbiologist at St. Francis Hospital, bringing both rigor and care to her work - qualities that would characterize all she did.
While still in high school, Susie met the love of her life, David Jenkins, through First Presbyterian Church and Young Life. Their relationship, rooted in shared faith and friendship, grew into a lifelong partnership. They were married on April 24, 1966, and shared nearly six decades of devoted marriage marked by love, faithfulness, and mutual respect.
Together, Susie and David built a family that was the center of her world. She was the beloved mother of four sons: Christopher (Sharon), Matthew (who passed away as an infant), Marc (Chauntelle), and Chad (Marci). She was a proud and devoted grandmother to Nicholas, Nolan, Jasper, Mixon, and Afton, each of whom brought her immense joy. She was also lovingly connected to members of her family by marriage, including Stephanie Delorm; Nick Delorm (Julia); and their son, Gordon. One of Susie's greatest delights was having her family gathered together - sharing meals, laughter, and time simply being with one another.
Susie was a woman of deep Christian faith. Her life reflected quiet devotion, perseverance through hardship, and steadfast trust in God's providence. She faced life's challenges - including serious illness and recovery - with remarkable grit, grace, and humility. Her strength was never loud, but it was constant, anchoring her family through every season.
Everyone who knew Susie remarked on her beautiful smile. It was a defining part of who she was - warm, genuine, and ever-present. That smile had a way of putting others at ease and bringing out the best in those around her. Through encouragement, kindness, and quiet affirmation, she made people feel seen, valued, and uplifted.
Susie was devoted to serving others in thoughtful and meaningful ways. She volunteered with Silver Key's Meals on Wheels, served on the Goodwill Foundation Board, and volunteered as a Stephen's Minister at First Presbyterian Church. Her service reflected her compassion, generosity, and quiet commitment to caring for others.
Susie and her loved ones are forever grateful for the tremendous care she received from the compassionate and dedicated caregivers who supported her over the past fifteen years. Their kindness, skill, and faithfulness were a profound blessing to Susie and to her family, and they will always be held in deep appreciation.
She will be remembered for her kindness, resilience, and servant's heart; for the warmth she brought into every room; and for the way she loved faithfully and without reservation. Her legacy lives on in the family she nurtured, the faith she modeled, and the countless lives she touched.
Susie is survived by her devoted husband, David Jenkins; her sons and daughters-in-law; her grandchildren; her brothers, Carlton Brown and Byron Brown; and her extended family and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her son Matthew and her parents.
A funeral service celebrating Susie's life will be held on Saturday, January 10, at 10:30 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Colorado Springs. A reception will follow at the Cheyenne Mountain Country Club.
Though deeply missed, her family rejoices in the assurance that she is now at peace in the presence of her Savior, and they look forward to the day they will be reunited around the throne of God's grace.
