Larry Dwayne Dillon, born on January 26, 1949, to Harry and Omadeen Dillon (Philpot), passed away peacefully on December 11, 2024, at the age of 75. Raised in Colorado Springs as a preacher's son, Larry developed a strong and unwavering relationship with God that he carried throughout his life.
Invited to try out for the Baltimore Colts, he instead chose to pursue a career in service to others as a physician. Larry attended the University of Nebraska College of Medicine, beginning a long and notable career that brought him to New York, where he was an Assistant Professor of Surgery at Mount Sinai School of Medicine and a Surgical Attending at Beth Israel Medical Center. While in New York, he met his beloved wife of 35 years, Sherryl.
They moved to Colorado Springs in 1992, and by 1994, were the proud parents of 2 sons and 2 daughters. Shortly thereafter, Larry began his private surgical practice to better serve those in the greater Colorado Springs community. He was a member of the Trauma team for both Memorial and St. Francis hospitals, introduced several surgical techniques that he previously utilized in New York, and went on to distinguish himself as the State of Colorado Chair for the American College of Surgeons' Commission on Cancer and as a Program Surveyor for both the Commission and the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers. His local leadership roles included serving as the long-term Cancer Liaison Physician at Memorial Hospital, as well as Chair of both the Division of Surgery and the Surgical Morbidity and Evaluation Committee. These activities were key to his drive to help others, especially those struggling with difficult oncology diagnoses.
In his personal life, Larry enjoyed cooking, woodworking, and most importantly, spending quality time with his family. He was a man of strong faith and a dedicated Christian, who continuously strived to strengthen his relationship with the Lord. Larry will be remembered for his kindness, unwavering support of others, and the love he shared with those around him.
Predeceased by his parents, sister Carolyn, and sweet niece Jessica, Larry is survived by his devoted wife, Sherryl; his four cherished children: Chad, Kelsey, Stephanie (Jake), and Sean; sister Cathi, brother Doug (Christine), grandson Eli, and nieces and nephews Carolyn (Mike), Keri, Becki (Mike), Jacob, Kelly, Kurt, Johnny, Jake, Sam, and Jenna.
A memorial service to celebrate Larry's life will be held at 10am on Friday, December 20, 2024, at Fellowship of the Rockies, located at 1625 South 8th Street. The family invites all who knew and loved him to join them in honoring his memory.

Sherryl, I am saddened by the news of Larry´s passing and then Kelsey so soon afterwards. I cannot imagine the pain you must be feeling. I wish I could do something for you. I just saw Kelsey´s obituary a few minutes ago, then read that Larry had passed as well so recently as last year. Please accept my sincere condolences.

Sherryl:
I just found out today, I'm so sorry to hear about Larry's passing. There is a short poem about grief called "Understanding the coming days" Grief is like the ocean; it comes on waves ebbing and flowing. Sometimes the water is calm, and sometimes it is overwhelming. All we can do is learn to swim.

I was a patient of Larry's and he was a kind, caring and excellent doctor. I remember him saying, "This is how I would do the surgery if you were my brother." I will always remember Larry with a special thankfulness for his skill and his faith.
