LaVonne McGee Obituary

LaVonne McGee, 85, of Sun City, AZ, passed away due to complications after surgery on February 24, 2016 at 9:00 in the morning at Hacienda del Rey Assisted Living Center in Litchfield Park, AZ. LaVonne is survived by her husband Maurice McGee, daughters Deborah Springer (husband Earl) and Jacqueline Thompson (husband Dave), son Kevin McGee (wife Karen), brother Ed DeJean, sister Shirley Doidge, nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

LaVonne was born on June 26, 1930 to parents William and Ella DeJean in Dunlap, IA. She graduated from Dunlap High School in 1947 where she played girls basketball. LaVonne married Maurice D. McGee on February 2, 1949. The two eventually ended up in Colorado Springs, CO where she was a stay-at-home mother and raised three children. During her time in Colorado Springs she enjoyed playing Bridge and was a member of the Patty Jewett Women's Golf Team. One of her great accomplishments was when she became the Patty Jewett Club Champion, she remembered and spoke of that moment often in her later years.

After retirement, she and Maurice toured the country in their RV for 2 ½ years before settling down again in Sun City, AZ. The two joined Palmbrook Country Club in 1990 where LaVonne was an avid golfer, card player and a wonderful social face around the club. She played both golf and cards several times a week for many years. LaVonne cherished her years and friends she made in Sun City, AZ and considered her years there a very joyful time of her life. LaVonne had a very infectious smile and could make anyone laugh that she came into contact with. She will be dearly missed by all that knew her.
