Lucille "Lu" Margaret Pickarts, 95, passed away peacefully on August 17, 2025. She was born on June 2, 1930, in Grand Mound, Iowa, the daughter of Anton and Pearl (Bousselot) Green.
Lu earned her B.A. in Education and devoted many years to teaching elementary school. On August 27, 1955, she married Alan Pickarts in Grand Mound, and together they shared 62 years of loving marriage. In 1958, they made their home in Colorado Springs, where Lu continued her passion for education as a substitute teacher in District 11 until her retirement in 1992.
Lu was an active member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, a dedicated apheresis donor at Penrose Hospital, and an enthusiastic participant in both the Colorado Springs Antique Club and the Red Hat Society. She also volunteered her time at the Catholic Center at the Citadel. Her interests included traveling, dancing, writing, and above all, spending time with her family.
She was best known for her heartfelt and humorous weekly newsletter, The Colorado Clipboard, which brought joy and insight to many. A woman of deep faith, boundless grace, and enduring kindness, Lu touched countless lives with her warmth and wisdom.
Lu is survived by her children: Jaye Pickarts, Kirstin (Ron) Rau, and Kara (Pat) Massa; fourteen grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Al; her son Glenn; an infant son and grandson; her parents; and eight siblings.
A celebration of her life will be held on Friday, September 5, at Holy Trinity Catholic Parish, 3122 Poinsettia Drive, Colorado Springs. The Rosary will begin at 10:30 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. and a reception. Interment will take place at a later date at Fort Logan National Cemetery.
The family extends its heartfelt gratitude to MorningStar Senior Living, Bloom Hospice, and all family and friends for their loving support.

I met Lu and Al when we toured Australia, New Zealand, and Fiji in 1980. I was so fortunate to enjoy their friendship for all these years. Lu was a truly warm, wonderful woman who embraced life. I will always remember both Lu and Al with a smile. Requiescat in pace, my friend.

Lu & Al used to dance to my husband's band, Al Eberhardt & they were good dancers. I would occasionally go to one of Al's gigs there & always enjoyed their company. Nice people. My Al passed away about 3 years ago. I'm so sorry for your loss & my sincerest condolences. Lu can continue her dancing with her Al & my Al's music in the heavens!

Lu was such a wonderful lady! While I worked at Holy Trintity she proof read the bulletin for me. I worked as the admin assistant for 2 years. Lu was a joy to work with. God rest her soul. My condolences to her family.
