Margaret Booth Obituary

Born November 21, 1931, she was the second of four daughters of Montgomery County District Court Judge John Fendall and Virginia Gott Coughlan of Silver Spring, Maryland. She attended Holy Names Academy, Silver Spring, MD, from which she still kept in contact with her classmates. She attended the University of Maryland where she was an active member of the Delta Delta Delta, or Tri-Delt, sorority. She graduated in 1953 with a BS in Practical Arts from the College of Home Economics. She married Benjamin Harrison Booth, Jr. of Philadelphia, a member of the US Air Force. They had five children: John Michael, Catherine Denise, Stephanie Ann, Christopher Timothy and Kerry Fendall. She came to Colorado as a mildly reluctant transplant, having lived a majority of her life in Maryland, and began a career with Mountain Bell (and its subsequent incarnations). She was fortunate enough to have children graduate from both the University of Colorado and Colorado State University, making the start of football season in August a raucous and lively time. Returning to Maryland after her children had all fled the nest, Peggy concluded her time with AT&T and then took a position with Natelli Communities in Gaithersburg. Having a life-long love of the arts, she volunteered at the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C., giving tours of the facility to visitors, showcasing the vast gifts given to the US from countries around the world to commemorate the life of our 35th president. As an avid proponent of education, Peggy enjoyed several summers at Oxford University. Returning to Colorado, Peggy structured her time around family, friends and volunteering at Pikes Peak Hospice, an organization she relied upon during her own valiant fight with cancer. She is preceded in death by her father, mother, and a sister, Mary Virginia Campbell. She is survived by two sisters: Patricia Clare Donovan of Annapolis, MD, and Barbara Harding of Castle Rock, CO; her five children, as well as five grandsons: Garrett Lynn Fox, of Spearfish, SD, and Christopher Ray Fox, Colorado Springs, CO, both honorably discharged from the US Marines; Austin Michael Booth and wife Marla Colorado Springs, CO; David Benjamin Booth, Craig, CO, and Noah Thomas Booth, Craig, CO; and granddaughter, Danielle Gonzales. Her first great-grandchild, a girl, is expected in April. In lieu of flowers, the family requests your support of the following groups or organizations: Pikes Peak Hospice, the USO, the Kennedy Center National Symphony Orchestra or the Colorado Ovarian Cancer Alliance. Services to be held at the Highland Park Baptist Church, Saturday, January 15th, 2011, 2 p.m.

Peggy had a smile that could light up a room and a sense of humor like no one I have ever met. She was not only a great co-worker but a wonderful friend. She will be missed more than she could ever imagine and will never be forgotten. Megan

An Irish Blessing
May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind always be at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
and rains fall soft upon your fields.
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand.

I had the privilege of working with Peggy for many years at Natelli Communities. Her face was the first thing people would see as they got off the elevator, and we received many compliments from guests about how Peggy was the perfect greeter – always friendly. I would joke with and tease her every chance I got, and she was always a good sport. I was totally bummed when she announced her retirement – and even more so when she moved back to Colorado Springs. I would still tease her though – write her notes to come back home (to MD) where she belonged. In the end, she was right where she belonged – close to her family, the source of her pride. I miss her much.
