cousin marge, i got the chance to come and see you sunday, your headstone is really nice,your picture is beautiful, very graceful, very classy. i'm still having a hard time believing your gone,it seems like yesterday,there's not a day that goes by that i don't think about you. I love you cousin Marge, I miss you. cousin Bren.

To the Collins and Strickland Families: It has taken this long for me to come to grips with the fact that dear, sweet Margie is gone. God had to take his angel to be by his side but I wish he could have left her with us just a little longer. My sincere condolences and God Bless You.

Hey Margie, I have been thinking about you. As I was going throught my in and out of sleep experince last night. Thoughts of days gone by came in to play and there you, Kay and Charles and I were at the LaJazz Affair. Charles had made for us, his famous Long Island Ice Tea. And we (me the camara bug) were having a ball, taking pictures, laughing and just living the life we had at that moment. Even though I have known you and Charles since the early 70's I was not around to grow with the two of you as a couple and family. I didn't get to celibrate like friends do when Shelly was born. To be there for the life changes we have all gone through. To share laughter and tears with you like my sister Kay has, but she alway kept me informed on or about our friends in Colo. while gone. But when ever I came back you two were still Marg and Charles to me. When I came back to live. You two let me work at the club with Kay at the front door. I met a lot of people and to this day still see a lot of them that came to celibrate at the Lajazz. It was then that people knew how to go out dressed for the "Affair" and act like grown folks. I just wanted you both to know I miss you guys and that you are never to far from my thoughts and heart....

cousin marge, it is cold out this morning,i'm thinking about you. there has been so many times that i wanted to come an see you, it's still hard, my heart is broken, when it is cold outside, something in me, thinks of you, and wanting to bring a blanket, i guess that is your way of telling me, to come see you, rain or shine! huh. you know, i pass by lajazz every day, going home, i passed by yesterday, an noticed, it was gone! it hurt me to see that, it was like you had passed away all over again, i sure miss you alot marge! see you soon. cousin bren.

Stopped by to see you, Charles and my son Josh today. I said hello to Aunty Larnell too. I see your headstone is almost done. Looks classy, just like you. I have more friends at Evergreen than anywhere else. I am finding it so hard to believe you are truly gone. It must have been a glorious Easter in heaven with all of you together. My Dear Aunt Margie.
Even though you're not here on earth I am still turning to you when I need help. One of my best freinds passed away a couple of days ago and I need you to take good care of her just like you took good care of me. I am who I am becuase you were always there to give me a hug and you always told me you love me. I know she won't have a hard time finding you I told her to look for the bright angel who looks like she already belongs there!

to my cousin marge, i,m sitting here just thinking about you,remember that time when you was babysitting us,and you had this bike with no tires on it, just the rims on it. you asked me if i wanted a ride on it,i got on the back of it, as we took off, i could'nt stop laughing, you said,bren, stop laughing before we wreck, i laughed even harder, the bike wobbled more an more, sure enough, we wrecked, we skined our knee's up.we went home, and you doctored us up, you put noxzema on our knee's,boy did that burn,ouch. i still to this day,laugh about that one.marge, i sure miss you alot,you are like a sister to me. i miss our long talk's we use to have, and the laughs we shared.i love you marge. cousin bren.

Marge, it seems like just yesterday that we met. From day one I knew what a special lady you were. I will never forget the wonderful times that you, Charles and I used to have together. I love and miss you both so much. I wish that you were here so that I could tell you both how much you meant to me. Thank you for being a wonderful sister in law and loving Auntie to my daughter Star. Shelli and Tracy I love you both and I am here for you if you need me.

My bestest friend, I miss you so. We did not talk every day, but we had so much to catch up on when we did talk. I miss you so and hope you and Charles are watching over us all and you have pulled Joshua under your wings. I haven't seen your grandson yet, but know that he is beautiful.

I know that all You require of me is to trust You, and look to You in faith and You will come and save me, and bring me an answer. You always have, and You always will, because you are faithful. You never fail any of us who look to You. I have failed You, Lord, by my doubt and unbelief at times, but You have never failed me. Lord, please remove all the sorrow and grief I feel. It was a beautiful day in 1973
When a Nubian vision walked up to me.

She said her name was Marge
I could immediately tell that she was in charge.
At first, her beauty made me feel intimidated.
But, seconds later, I felt that we were already related.

That soft-spoken, friendly voice…Her winning smile and warm personality
Made me realize that in reality
She was as beautiful INSIDE… as I could see on the outside.
She made everyone around her feel bright.
Even when things weren’t going right.
She always looked for the positive side
And if you would say, “she was the nicest, the friendliest, the sweetest”;
I’d say, “You ain’t NEVER lied!!!

She TREASURED her family and there wasn’t ANYTHING she wouldn’t do for them.

I feel immeasurably blessed to have known her
And to call her simply “FRIEND” was a definite MISNOAMER!!!
She was more than just a true friend.
She was my sister, my cousin, my confidant to the end.

My dear sweet Aunt Margie. I love you and miss you so much. Life seems so empty without you but I don't question God's decsion to call you into his arms. But I do thank him everyday for loving me enough to know you and call you my Auntie.You were once an earthly angel, now you are a heavenly angel.

I was wondering how we could use Marge's guest book as a way to start organizing a family reunion in honor of her memory as well as all those who have passed previously. We have such a large and great family!! We should do something if only once that brings everyone together to celebrate our enormity, spirit, and diversity. Remember that quilt Sam talked about during the eulogy? Don’t you want to see how it looks with all the pieces together?!!

Allow me to motivate you further,..

Think of it this way. If Marge’s spirit were to be standing right next to you at this very moment – sure, you might feel it but you probably wouldn’t be able to recognize it visually. Unfortunately most humans can only understand what they can see, touch, smell, hear, or taste and it’s those gifts from God that we’re supposed to use to try to get to know one another’s souls – WHILE WE’RE HERE ON EARTH.

Uriah, Margaret, Alberta, Blanche, Marge, Charles and all the others know by now what a person’s soul actually looks like and it's got to be one of the most important lessons to learn in the presence of Jesus Christ. Let’s begin to build a family of people who are ahead of the curve when our individual time comes to leave the only place we’ve ever known as home. Me, I want to be able to say when my time comes – “uh um hmm, yeah - I know how to recognize a person’s soul – and my family taught me how to do that!” Now THAT’S love when you take the time to get to know someone from the inside out – not outside in.

I'm willing to work with whoever can commit themselves to getting it done along with me. It would be great to work with the younger generation too (those 35 and under) to get this organized for 2010-2011. I have about a million ideas on how to make our family reunion unforgettable.

God blessed the world with a wonderful, kind and giving soul. From the day we met in high school,international relations club, I cherished your friendship. Even in pain, you never talked about your suffering. Never losing faith in the community , "Thank you" for providing a place to go, although the community didnt always show its appreciation. Others, including me failed and moved away. Your hugs, words of encouragement, business support and friendship over the past 29 years, endeared me to you. Goodbye, God accept you into heaven. To take a line from the movie 'How Stella got her groove Back' Who will be my best friend now? Her homegoing was as beautiful and classy as she. I will miss my girl so much but I know the spirit lives. We first met in 63 and we have never stopped being friends. We shared many joys, pains, hurts, frustrations, good times and the list goes on. We never had the type of friendship that we had to talk daily, but when we got together it was if I had never left. MargaRu as we affectionately called her was LOVE. Let the legacy continue through her extended family. To the Collins, Davis, Strickland family if ever you want to talk, cry, scream, or just talk about old times I am here for you. I remember talking to you Marge just a week or so ago and you were so positive as always and we really leaned on each other in the past year. I will always remember you. My deepest sympathy to the Collins, Strickland family. This news caught me truly off guard when I heard of Marge's death. I'v known her since the days of the "South Side" she was then modeling for Cathy White. I had the pleasure to meet she and Charles daughter, Shelly when I worked La Jazz Affair for awhile. Shelly honey and your siblings should know I am sorry I never met the other children. But please know from my family to yours we send lots of prayer and confort for all of you. Well now she and Charles are together again and that is a happy thought. I will miss seeing your smiling Beautiful face girl. What a loss for us all..

I give my deepest condolences to the Collins family. It really saddened me to hear that Ms. Marge passed away she was always so sweet and so elegant. Whenever she made eye contact with me she would always speak and often greeted me with a hug. With Mr. and Mrs. Collins being gone Colorado Springs won't be the same and neither will the club scene. The Lajazz Affaire was an African American Landmark to Colorado Springs and the Black Community. Thank you so much Ms. Marge, You will truly be missed.

Although I did not know you personally, knowing your daughter and how much she loves you and loves to talk about you allowed me to know you. I would like to extend my deepest sympathies to the Collins family. I am very sorry for your loss.

Our heart felt condolences go out to the Collins family and immediate relatives. Margie was a wonderful friend to the Mayo family for well over twenty years. We enjoyed conversations with her...as well as the superb entertainment at LaJAZZ Affair. My wife and I also enjoyed seeing Margie whenever she attended EMBC on 1 South Walnut. Mrs. Collins was like a second mother to me when I was attending college. She always had a bright smile and something pleasant to say. Mrs. Collins will be DEARLY MISSED. I am HONOURED to have know her. HER SPIRIT SHINED BRIGHT and I know it will continue through her children.

I so loved my cousin Marge ever since I was a little boy growing up in the Springs. She'd call me by a nickname she gave me back then ever since. Both her inner and outer beauty exemplified the very best our family has to offer the human race during our short time here. To Aunt Gert, Wallace, and all my second cousins who remain,.. be comforted by the fact that her spirit has returned into the loving hands of the Creator. Ms. Margie Collins was a woman I will never forget, I was fortunate enough to be one of the historic headliner DJ's at the La Jazz Affaire for six of the eight years of working for her. She gave us so much laughter & joy!! I was honored to talk to her two days before her passing-she gave me words of encouragement for me and my 4 Point Play Entertainment family only a loving mother who cares can give! Thank you Ms. Margie Collins for letting me display my talent as a DJ for the #1 Best Black owned Club to ever grace streets of Southern Colorado. I will not forget everything you taught me about the club business and what to look for. Don't forget to look down on me from time to time to make sure I make that last call for alcohol!!... I Love You & will miss very much!!
