Mary Ann Evans Obituary

Mary Ann Davis Evans (82), long-time resident of Colorado Springs, Colorado, died at her home on Thursday, August 21, 2014.

Mary Ann was born in Monroe, LA, the daughter of G.A Davis and Floy A. Davis of Ruston, LA. She attended All Saints Episcopal School in Vicksburg, Mississippi and graduated from Louisiana Polytechnic Institute (now Louisiana Tech University) in Ruston, LA with a major in Journalism. In 1952, she married her lifelong love, Bobby Evans, and she remained devoted to him throughout their 56 years of marriage.

Mary Ann and Bobby moved to Baton Rouge, Louisiana in 1957, where they raised two daughters. Mary Ann was active in numerous community and civic organizations, including the Baton Rouge Junior League, the CPA Auxiliary, and the Kappa Delta Alumni Association. She and Bobby enjoyed vacationing in Colorado during those years, and in 1989 they retired to live full-time in Colorado Springs. During their retirement, Mary Ann and Bobby spent time jeeping in the surrounding high country, playing tennis and bridge, and fishing in the Pueblo Reservoir.

Mary Ann was artistically gifted and used her creativity in watercolor painting and interior design. She was a lifelong learner and voracious reader who was very knowledgeable about antiques as well as about American and English history. She was known as a gracious and welcoming hostess who enjoyed entertaining friends and family. Although Mary Ann spent the last forty years of her life in Colorado Springs, she remained a Southern lady at heart, treasuring her Southern heritage and taking pride in keeping Southern traditions.

Mary Ann was preceded in death by her parents and by her husband, Bobby Evans. She is survived by daughter Barbara Evans Hebert and husband Frederic of Asheville, North Carolina and daughter Mary Laura Evans Courter of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She was "Ann-Ann" to grandson Davis Hebert and wife Tammy of Charlotte, North Carolina, granddaughter Mary Hebert Dawson and husband Brian of Abingdon, Virginia, granddaughter Emilie Hebert Williams and husband Jamie of Asheville, North Carolina, and grandchildren Neal and Leah Courter, both of Baton Rouge. She had 6 great-grandchildren: Evan and Blaine Dawson, Austin and Elizabeth Hebert, and Carter and Phoebe Williams.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 27 at 6:00-8:00 PM at Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston, Louisiana. Services will be at 2:00 PM on Thursday, August 28 at The Episcopal Church of the Redeemer in Ruston, Louisiana, with burial to follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Ruston.

Dear Barbara and family,
I do indeed remember your mother. After Glenn and I married, she and your father invited us to dine with Mary and Fred. She was indeed a gracious lady and hostess. I remember her with fond memories. May your memories of your time with her be helpful to you in this time of mourning.
