Mary Alice Ayling, 98, passed away on Saturday, February 17, 2024, after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's disease. Her final days were spent peacefully at Clare Bridge Memory Care at Brookdale Skyline in Colorado Springs.
Mary Alice was born September 28, 1925 in La Junta, Colorado to Francis and Alice Gavagan.
Mary Alice was known for her audacious personality and bold spirit while she maintained a lifelong dream of becoming a Broadway actress. She was a devoted Catholic and loving caregiver to her mother. Mary Alice was a lifelong resident of Colorado. She earned a Master's Degree in Education and touched many lives during her lengthy career as a middle school history teacher.
Mary Alice was a member of the Colorado Springs League of Women's Voters, the Pike's Peak Bonsai Society, Ikebana Colorado Springs and Colorado Springs Bridge Center.
Mary Alice is survived by her nephews, Tom (Laura) Cartier, Mark (Laura) Cartier; great-niece, Nicole Cartier; great-nephews, Kevin and Lucas Cartier and devoted friend Susan King.
Mary Alice was preceded in death by her loving husband Kingsley B. Ayling. Mary Alice and King made many happy memories while living on North Cascade Avenue in Colorado Springs. Playing golf and visiting The Broadmoor were two of their favorite pastimes. Mary Alice's sister and longtime bridge partner, Barbara Cartier also preceded her in death.
Services will be held Friday, March 8, 2024 at 11:00 am at the Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 2318 North Cascade Avenue, Colorado Springs, CO 80907.
