Robert Lee Newkirk, 94, passed away peacefully into the arms of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on March 6, 2022. Bob was born on March 29, 1927, in Brooklyn, New York to Jesse Franklin and Katherine Marie (Ehrmeier) Newkirk. The family later moved to Torrance, California where Bob attended school until joining the United States Navy in 1944, at the age of 17. With pride he served our country during World War II, participating in both the Battle of Okinawa and the Philippine Liberation, and was honorably discharged from the United States Navy in 1948.

Bob married Norma Biggs in 1949 and they lived in Long Beach, California. During that time, he was working for the Navigators, and in 1956 took his family to Okinawa, Japan on a four-year mission. In 1960 the family returned state-side, to Colorado Springs, Colorado where Bob continued to work for the Navigators at their Glen Eyrie headquarters. In 1967 he started a new and very successful career with the Prudential Insurance Company, retiring 30+ years later as an Agent Emeritus. Post-retirement he worked for Avis, driving brand new cars throughout the beautiful state of Colorado.

Bob is survived by his 3 children, Paul; Kathy (Tim) Hodges; and Marie (Kevin) Moore; 4 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by Norma, parents Jesse and Katherine Newkirk, and twin sister, Rose Marie Murray.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, March 23, 2022, at First Presbyterian Church, 219 East Bijou Street, Colorado Springs, Colorado.
