Robert Osborne

October 21, 1937

January 12, 2022

Robert Porter Osborne died peacefully at home in Colorado Springs on January 12, 2022 following a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. Son of Joseph Erle Osborne, Jr. and Eleanor (Porter) Osborne, he was born October 21, 1937 in Woodward, Oklahoma and spent childhood summers in Woodland Park, Colorado.

Mr. Osborne attended the University of Oklahoma, where he met his wife and from which both graduated in 1959. He was a proud member of Beta Theta Pi fraternity. Upon earning his degree in Business Administration and completing ROTC service, he began his career with Bank of America in Southern California. In 1963, he relocated his young family to Colorado Springs to join his father in the concrete business at Ready Mix Corp., where he served as president until its sale in 1979. Subsequently, Mr. Osborne was president of RMC Corp., serving the housing needs of a growing Colorado Springs through the development of residential real estate with his longtime business partner Allyn Brown.

Mr. Osborne loved Colorado Springs and served the community in various capacities, including as a member of the boards of The First National Bank of Colorado Springs, Fountain Valley School, and -- alongside his dear friend Sister Myra James -- Penrose Hospital. Mr. Osborne was a member of the Cheyenne Mountain Country Club for 58 years. He served as its treasurer for 37 years and was also its past-president. He was a member of the Broadmoor Golf Club.

Mr. Osborne was a family man with a great sense of humor. He cherished time spent with his wife, three children, and three grandchildren. He loved to ski, and was an early, longtime homeowner in the Vail Valley. He skied until he was 81 years old. He also enjoyed tennis and hunting upland birds and waterfowl in the San Luis Valley with his Hunt Club friends. He never tired of listening to the Dave Brubeck Quartet. He was passionate about Oklahoma Sooner football, as was his wife. He was also a longtime fan of the Denver Broncos.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Carol (Cashion) Osborne and his brother J.E Osborne, III. He is survived by his children, J. Greg Osborne (Madelaine) of Cherry Hills Village, CO; Tom Osborne (Scott) of New York, NY; and Anna Hite (Doug) of Charlotte, NC, as well as his granddaughters Lily, Katherine and Carly.

The family wishes to thank Heartfelt Care at Home for their expert support; in particular, Bev, Sigi, Charna, Alyce, Stephanie and Carol provided steadfast friendship and attentive care until the morning of his passing. We are eternally grateful. Mr. Osborne will be laid to rest next to his beloved wife at the Chapel of Our Saviour columbarium. A celebration of life is planned for Spring.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggest that donations be made to Fountain Valley School, 6155 Fountain Valley School Road, Colorado Springs, CO 80911.

I will never forget Robert. When I was a sophomore he was a good friend when I needed one. He was the starting senior halfback and I was his backup.

Well its been a year since you left this earth. I still can see your beautiful smile and hear your laughter. Your pictures pop up on my phone on all the good times we had. I am so grateful that I was able to spend so much time with you. The fun that you and I shared will never be forgotten. One of the best times we had was four wheeling in my jeep and you laughing saying how much fun you were having or the time that you and I went to Cripple Creek driving around and seeing the sites and the fall colors and I can't forget the pictures we got of you with the donkeys , you were so funny that day. There are so many funny memories that I have of you! I just wanna say Thank you !
I miss you soooo much!!!

Robert and Carol were regular guests of mine for many, many years at Macaroni Grill - I loved them both dearly! After Carol passed, I continued to wait of Robert, along with Allyn or his care takers; Beverly and Sigi. Robert always had a smile on his face and a twinkle in his eyes, always wanted a hug and a kiss on the cheek! I always looked forward to seeing him in my restaurant and holding his hand while he talked to me! I left the restaurant with covid, but continued to inquire of his health through his caretakers. I did have the opportunity to dine with him at the Black Eyed Pea Restaurant just a couple of months before he passed. Such a kind and sweet man! Someone like Robert, only comes around once in a lifetime! I'm blessed to have known both Robert and Carol! I'll love you both forever!

I was Bob´s Commercial Banker during his Ready-Mix Concrete days. He was a joy to work with because of his enthusiasm, focus and positive approach to business and life. The only time I remember him being down was when returning from a Vail ski weekend he said my boys said this weekend "mind if we catch up with you later in the day Dad". He was a great skier but found it tough to accept passing the torch on... Happy Trails.

I went to school with Robert in Oklahoma. He was 2 years ahead of me and we both played football for old Woodward High. Of all the people I knew in Woodward Robert was one of the BEST. Rest in peace my old friend.

Bob and Carol were wonderful neighbors. They were so kind to our boys when they came around selling Boy Scout popcorn. They always said, "We need some of that popcorn for our ski house in Vail!" Bob was a kind, intelligent man with a great sense of humor. We extend our sympathies to his children and relatives. We will miss him dearly.

Bob was one-of-a kind in so many ways. He was a class act, a great family man and a community leader. I had the privilege of roofing his beautiful home 4 times!
Going to miss this legend of a guy! Rest in peace Bob.

Bob was a great story teller. I never laughed so hard as when he regaled us with how he helped recruit the Selmon brothers to Oklahoma by setting them up on a Colorado ski trip.
Very much enjoyed knowing and working with Bob through the years.

Twelve yrs younger than Robert, he was more a brother to me than an Uncle, and as a little boy I remember playing football in my grandparents' (his parents) yard in Woodward, Okla where we all grew up one block away on the same street. My Dad (Joe Osborne III), my Grandad (Joe Osborne, Jr), my 2 brothers (David & Alan) and I would jump into Grandad's Jeep station wagon with the 2 hunting dogs and go racing across the fields on Phil Ferguson Sr's ranch hunting quail, duck, pheasant, and turkey. Robert's stunning good looks, refreshing, quick wit, incisive mind, unforgettable laughter, and love for fun and adventure made him the idol of us all. As I grew older and began a banking career, Robert and I would visit often about business, politics, and anything else that came to mind. He will always be present in my heart, mind, and soul, and I will always love the mere thought of him, with his big smile and a friendly wave. The last time I saw him in Colo Spgs a couple of years ago on a weekend spent with him and Greg visiting our old Woodland Park neighborhood, the old Porter cabin, and of course the Golden Bee at the Broadmoor for refreshments afterwards, he waved goodbye from his front courtyard and I took this photo. He was and always will be a living legend in every sense.
