Sterling Penman Obituary

Sterling Allen (Pappy) Penman, Sr., long time resident of Green Mountain Falls, recently of Fort Mohave, Arizona, left this world to be with our Lord, on Thursday, January 21, 2016. He was 79 years of age.

Surviving him are his wife of 59 years, Patricia Quinn Penman; his daughter, Paige Penman Wilkinson (David), sons, Sterling Allen Penman, Jr. (Janice) and Michael Kenneth Penman (Anne); Grandchildren, Natalie Penman Gum (Matt), Nicole Penman Berry (Chris), Taylor Wilkinson, Connor Wilkinson, Ashley Penman Worthington (Wesley), and Zach Penman; Great Grandsons, Sterling Jay Gum and Hunter Hannon Gum.

Born in Colorado Springs on February 24, 1936, Sterling grew up in very humble circumstances with life-long respect for his parents, David Penman, and Vera Bader Penman, both Colorado Springs natives, and with love for his brother David, who have all preceded him in death. Sterling graduated from Manitou High School in 1954 where he met the love of his life, Patricia. As a husband, Sterling remained steadfast and committed to Patricia with a love that lasted through the decades. Together they enjoyed traveling, watching their beloved Broncos, finding the best restaurants, and spoiling their kids and grandkids.

Beginning in the 50's, Sterling used his natural talent for creating things, and built a successful construction business which he passed onto his sons upon his retirement. There are beautiful custom homes all around the Colorado Springs area which reflect his special and masterful touch. In his retirement, he started collecting and lovingly restoring antique tools. His collection is diverse and complete and represents hours of hard work.

The last year brought about endless physical challenges for our husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. However, he never gave up when his body was failing him; he always had hope. Sterling died a very rich man. A life rich with what really matters; the most steadfast and adoring wife, three children who never left his side during this last year, six sweet grandchildren whom he truly adored, and two great grand boys who were the light of his life.

A celebration of life will take place on Saturday, February 6th at 1pm at the Sallie Bush Community Building, 10795 Ute Pass Avenue in Green Mountain Falls. Reception for family and friends to follow. Gifts in memory of Sterling should be make to the Barbara Davis Center - Children's Diabetes Foundation, 4380 S. Syracuse Street, Suite 430, Denver, CO 80237.
