Thomas Costello Obituary

Thomas R. Costello passed away on Friday evening, October 28th 2016. He was born on June 6, 1933 in Kearney, Nebraska to parents Donovan and Margaret Costello.

Tom was preceded in death by his wife, Donna Boehler Costello; two sons, Dennis Costello and Tommy Costello; as well as a brother, James Costello; and a sister Barbara Provin.

He is survived by his wife, Nevelle Costello; daughters Katy (Matt) Smith and Jennifer (Keith) Harper; a son Josh (Lucinda) Costello, sisters Jean (James) Moore and Leanna (Tim) Englert. He is also survived by six grandchildren that he cherished: Connor Smith, Paige Smith, Garrett Smith, Grace Harper, Madison Luster, and Docken Costello. Nevelle's children, grandchildren, and great=grand children loved him as their own. Tom is also survived by his numerous nieces and nephews.

Tom enlisted in the Air Force after high school and was proud to serve his country during the Korean War. After the Air Force, Tom found his true calling in the Aerospace industry - retiring after more than 39 years of service with Boeing. Tom worked in Marketing and rose through the management ranks, working in and running offices in Arlington, Seattle, Los Angeles, Boston, and Colorado Springs. He was instrumental in the Space Program and worked with various Boeing members on the Lunar Orbiter project which captured the first-ever photos of Earth from deep space on August 23, 1966.

Tom loved music and was a proud member of the Immanuel Lutheran choir for close to 30 years. He taught himself to play the piano and could often be found listening to various forms of music. He was also an accomplished amateur photographer, winning awards for his pictures and garnering industry recognitions.

In his earlier years, Tom was an avid skier and could be found a few weekends every year on the slopes in Colorado. He was a fan of air shows - including the famous hot air balloon fest in his beloved Colorado Springs.

In recent years, his love of travel flourished as he and Nevelle were able to visit Europe, Africa, Asia, Mexico, Hawaii and other exotic locations.

Tom was known by family and friends as the great guy with the radiant smile!

Gifts in memory of Tom may be given to Immanuel Lutheran Church Memorial Fund.

Your smile, your laughter, (and your teasing) your courage amidst so many challenges throughout your life even as a child, your ability to brighten the day for all those around you leave a cherished memory in the many lives you have touched. Even heaven is a happier place with you there. I love you, my precious brother.
