Vernon Timmons Obituary

Vernon Timmons
January 22, 2024

Vernon J. Timmons, Jr., 68, a proud veteran of the United States Coast Guard, passed away on January 22, 2024. Vernon was diagnosed with brain cancer in 2023 and fought a year-long battle. He is survived by his wife, Debbie Terry; daughter, Melissa (Jason) Caron; grandchildren Isaiah, Noah and Angelica; sisters, Verna Timmons and Linda (Randy) Gearhart and niece, Bailey Gearhart (Dylan Witte). He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and co-workers. He was preceded in death by his father, Vernon Sr., mother, Lupie (Solano) Timmons, and brother, Joseph Timmons.
Vernon was born in Baumholder, Germany. His family moved to Colorado Springs when he was ten. He graduated from Coronado High School in 1973 and was proud to be a West Sider. He recently attended his 50th class reunion. Vernon joined the Coast Guard and achieved the rank of Petty Officer First Class working on and maintaining helicopters and assisting in search and rescue. He retired after 22 years of service and started his second career with the United States Postal Service where he retired after 25 years of service.
He met Debbie Terry in Dallas, TX. Sparks flew! They instantly bonded and knew they were meant to be together. They shared many interests including music, food, movies and a love for chocolate. After a year and a half together, they moved to Colorado Springs where they were married. They enjoyed taking drives in the mountains and cruising through Garden of the Gods. They then moved to Arkansas where Vern later retired. Vernon and Debbie belong to three cats and a dog.
Vern will be interred at Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery in North Little Rock. In lieu of flowers/cards, the family asks a donation be made to Glioblastoma Research (www.gbmresearch.org). Semper Paratus!

I was a classmate of Vernon's from Coronado HS graduating in 1973. I remember Vernon as a friend who was always nice and kind. I recalled learning that he joined the US Coast Guard and thought, how original for a kid from Colorado Springs ! Then again, that was Vernon.

Rest in peace Vernon,

Hello Debbie and family,
Vern was a very special friend to me. He had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh. He was an extremely hard worker at the Colorado Springs P.O. and he will be missed greatly. I do hope to see him again in Heaven! God Bless you all!

Since we didn't get together, after your class reunion, you promised that next time you came in to CS we would break bread together. It never happened. I hope you are in the loving arms of Jesus and next to your wonderful mother who I loved so very much. Until we meet again "viya con Dios."
