Virginia Jacques Church passed away on December 1, 2025. She was born on September 24, 1930 to Virginia James Jacques and Horton Jacques in Kansas City, MO. She attended Briarcliff Junior College in New York. She was a writer and photographer for the Independent magazine and once wore the Hope Diamond for a benefit.
Virginia married Arthur B. Church, Jr. November 15, 1952. His work with CBS took them first to New York City, and then to Phoenix, Arizona. In 1971, they moved to the family home in Chipita Park, CO with their three daughters.
She became the editor for the Ute Pass newspaper The Triangle Echo, and was a reporter for The Colorado Springs Sun. In 1971, Virginia and Arthur started the popular Green Mountain Falls Flea Market, which led to opening their first antique store, The Peddler's Patch, in that town. In 1976, they were among the earliest businesses to participate in the renewal of Old Colorado City, opening up Old Town Antiques in a renovated 1889 building. Later, they opened Church's Antiques, which closed in 1989.
Virginia is survived by her three daughters Jacqueline Simonds and husband Robin, Anne Cordle and husband Robert, Catherine Miles and husband Brian, and four grandchildren: Branden Cordle and wife Dakota, Olivia Cordle, Tyler Miles and wife Maggie, and Stephanie Miles. Memorial contributions can be made to the McAllister House Museum. Private services are pending.
