WILLIAM "BILL" LEWIS WOODS
January 27, 1933 December 23, 2022
Bill left this world for the Great Beyond on Dec. 23, 2022 to join his beloved wife, Judy (2014), his brothers, Maurice (Red) Woods, Ira (Junior) Woods along with many close friends and family.
He was a big man with a great sense of humor who truly enjoyed people. Born the second of 5 boys to Ira and Ruth Woods of Woodland Park, CO, he continued to call Woodland home for many years. He joined the Navy in 1952 during the Korean War and saw the Far East from the
decks of the USS Hancock. Returning home in 1956, where it was rumored, he caroused and drank in
the bars by night and worked hard in construction by day. He met Judith K Rooks and made a very wise decision to marry her in 1957 and settled down. They were blessed with 57 years of marriage, raising three children while owning, and operating several businesses together - Bill Woods Gulf Station where he was the mechanic/tow truck operator and employed many WPHS students. After selling the gas
station they opened B&J Shoes where Judy shared her obsession for shoes with Woodland and Bill became a shoe salesman. (Imagine very large hands placing shoes on ladies' and little kids' feet!) They recovered from the shoe business by Bill spending a few years as a foreman on the Trans Alaska Pipeline. Next opening Woods Drilling Inc., drilling water wells, they were entrepreneurs once again. It became a family business where Bill passed his knowledge of heavy equipment on to his boys.
Bill was devoted to his hometown and belonged to numerous organizations; he was honored to be named the 1970 Wagon Boss for the WP Chamber of Commerce in recognition for his many volunteer hours to the community. He was also an officer and driver for the "first" Ute Pass Ambulance Service along with his good friend Slim Loop. Bill claimed "they never lost anyone while they were in their ambulance"!
Upon retirement, Bill became an avid golfer and boater. He and Judy enjoyed traveling, spoiling grandchildren and spending time with friends and family. Eventually, settling in Pueblo West.
Bill felt extraordinarily fortune to have lived 89 years. They were so full of wonderful times that he couldn't pick any particular occasion which stood out above any other- Reflecting he said with a smile "It had been a
GOOD life!"
Bill loved his family and friends and will be deeply missed by all. His brothers, Jim (Patsy) Woods (Canon City) and Robert Woods (Pueblo). His girlfriend and lifelong friend, Donna Clifford (Canon City). His kids
and their spouses: Billy and June Woods (Greeley), Rusty and Toni Woods (Cascade) and Tracie and Doug Nelson (Westcreek). His grandkids: Robbie Woods, Sherilyn Woods, Ashley Harding and Kolby Woods. Great grandkids-Riley and Quinnley Harding and Landon Godfrey (Woods). And many nieces, nephews and good friends.
A Celebration of Life is planned for a later date in the spring
