Zachary Maddux Obituary

Zachary Michel Albert Maddux died June 2 at his home in Woodland Park. His family and friends held a celebration of his life and a Memorial Service at 2:00 p.m. Monday, June 5, 2006 at the First Christian Church in Woodland Park. Pastor Galen Beaver will conduct the service. Zachary was born April 26, 1988 in Colorado Springs to Michel Albert and Roberta (Bertye) Lee Schmehr Maddux and was a life-long resident of Colorado. He was the third child and the first son. After being home-schooled through the first five grades, he attended the Woodland Park school system through high school. He was a passionate skate boarder and an expert fly fisherman. In a family of musicians, he had proven to be an expert on drums and a natural on electric guitar. He consumed difficult books and tasks with gusto. He worked diligently as an apprentice chef in a major restaurant and had a bright future with several career paths. Zach "Xaq" had a thoughtful, kind, and loving personality. Zachary left behind his grandmothers: Carol Maddux of Manhattan, KS; and Dixie Schmehr of Hill City, KS; his parents, two sisters: Kathryn Michelle and Ruth Marie; his younger brother Joshua Vernon; niece Liora Veronika and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Preceding him in death was his grandfather Albert Glenn Maddux. A fund has been established in Zachary's name at the National Institute of Mental Health Gift Fund 6001 Executive Boulevard, Room 8104, MSC 9655, Bethesda, MD 20892. Please include with your gift a letter indicating the donation is to be used for depression research and acknowledge the Maddux family at 925 Forest Edge Place, Woodland Park, CO 80863. After years of struggle, Zachary succumbed to an unreasoning depression, against which he had no defense.

Mike and Beryte, I just heard about Zach and am so sad. We have some friends that had the exact same situation a little over a year ago. So tragic. Love to you both.

I can't believe the little boy I, along with Beth, knew growing up is gone. It took my breath away when Beth told me the news. I remember changing his diaper and playing with him in the backyard with his sisters. My heart goes out to you all. Your entire family is in our prayers. I'm so sorry for your loss.

Dear Maddux Family,

We were so sorry to hear of your huge loss. Although we only knew Xaq as a toddler-youngster, no doubt he became a fine young man. Those of us who met the family could sense the deep love you had for all of your children. May good memories sustain you, and the words of Acts 24:15 inspire hope.
