Agnes Ellis Obituary

December 19, 1941 – July 18, 2008. Agnes Ellis passed away peacefully in her home on Friday, July 18, 2008. She was born in Pueblo, Colorado to Susa and James Kaguras who emigrated from Greece. The family moved to Colorado Springs in 1942. Agnes attended Palmer High School and went on to receive a B.A. at the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley. She married Alex Ellis on September 9, 1962. She taught English and foreign languages at North High School in Denver. She then went on to be an outstanding homemaker, mother and taught Greek on the side. Agnes is survived by her husband, Alex Ellis, of 46 years; her daughter, Margaret Niki Ellis; her daughter and son-in-law, Suzanne and Mark Emeis; her son and daughter-in-law, John and Jen Ellis; her grandchildren, Derek and Davis Emeis; her brother-in-law, Theodore Ellis; her sister-in-law, Evgenia Manesioti; her brother, John Kaguras; and many dear friends and relatives in the U.S. and Greece. She was preceded in death by her parents James and Susa. Agnes was an outstanding Greek cook, loved spending time with her family and friends, enjoyed shopping and was always an inspiration to others. One of her biggest joys was spoiling her two grandchildren, rooting for the Denver Broncos, crocheting, cartooning, and her newest hobby of watching golf on TV. Agnes, with the help of Dr. DeCarolis and the staff at the Rocky Mountain Cancer Center, valiantly fought ovarian cancer for almost 3 years. She taught us the meaning of the words strength, courage and optimism. Her zest and love for life were contagious. Trisagion services will be held at 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 22 at the Shrine of Remembrance "America the Beautiful" Chapel of Roses, 1730 East Fountain Boulevard. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, July 23 at the Chapel. Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery. A luncheon reception will then follow at the Olympian Plaza Reception and Event Center, 975 South Union Boulevard. Memorials may be made to Archangel Michael Greek Orthodox Church at 2215 Paseo Road, Colorado Springs, CO 80907, St. John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church at P.O. Box 3011, Pueblo, CO 81005, or Rocky Mountain Cancer Center Patient Fund, 3027 North Circle Drive, Colorado Springs, CO 80909.

Agnes was the best neighbor ever during the time I lived next door! As I sit here looking at a picture of Suzie's boys, I cry for their loss of their grandmother and share the grief all Agnes' family and friends are feeling right now. But I'll dwell on Agnes' past smiles and the taste of her delicious baklava that I was privileged to enjoy on many occasions. I send my sympathy and my love to the family.
