Anna Marie Nemanich, 37, passed away peacefully, accompanied by her family, on February 25, 2026, at the University of Colorado Medical School Hospital in Aurora, Colorado, after complications from an extremely rare post-transplant stem-cell disease following her simultaneous double transplant of pancreas/kidney in October 2025. She was born in Elmhurst, Illinois, to Sue and Robert Nemanich, and later moved from Racine, WI, to Colorado Springs, CO, in 2005. Everyone she met considered her one of the kindest and most positive people, who impacted the lives of people of all ages and livelihoods. She attended the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs, Pikes Peak State College, and Western Governors University, and was about to complete her education degree and begin student teaching before her severe health issues. A special education assistant teacher at Trailblazer and Penrose Elementary Schools in District 11 (2014-2022). She graduated from Palmer High School in 2007 in the International Baccalaureate program. Previously, she was a long-term intern for Senator Michael Bennet's constituency office, and she served as Operations Manager at the Academy Miniature Golf Course and as Nursery Coordinator at High Plains Unitarian-Universalist Church (CO Springs, CO) and Olympia Brown Unitarian-Universalist Church (Racine, WI). She is survived by her younger brother, James Robert of Thornton, CO, her parents, Sue & Bob Nemanich of CO Springs, CO, grandfather Jerry Shipton, (Westchester, IL) six aunts; Elizabeth Hensel (Charles) of Westminster, CO, Pamela Fodor (Jay) of Woodridge, IL, Catherine McNulty (William), of Kemp, TX, Paula Hyatt (Charles) of Parrish FL, Ann Marie Nemanich of San Francisco CA, and Judith Bernhard (John) of Forney TX. Two uncles: Thomas Nemanich (Roxanne) of Elmhurst, IL, and John Nemanich (Maureen) of Atlanta, GA. Seventeen cousins: Andrew Woods, William Woods, Claire Shipton, Iain Shipton, Emma Fodor, Jessica Wrinkle, Lindsey McNulty, Bradley McNulty, Charley Hyatt, Megan Mann, Joe Nemanich, William Nemanich, Samuel Nemanich, Jackie Nemanich, Nicholas Nemanich, Madelyn Bernhard, and Abigail Bernhard. Personal pursuits included a traveling concert choir, environmental and social activism in her youth, gourmet cooking and gardening, and traveling when her health allowed as a young adult. Services and celebrations will be private. Donations or commemorations to the Juvenile Diabetes Association, National Kidney Foundation, Foundation for Fighting Blindness, or the National Society of Transplantation.
