Alan Rex Obituary

Alan Rex celebrated his 83rd birthday on April 8, and died suddenly at home on April 10, having lived a full and glorious life.

Born in Lynn, Massachusetts, Alan was the only son of the late Harold Rex and Ruth Jacobson. He was an Army Sergeant during the Korean Conflict. He married his childhood sweetheart, Margaret Keller (deceased). Through their living example they taught their children, Stephen and Barbara, to love nature, serve others and live with integrity.

Alan graduated from Virginia Tech University with a BS in Biology and an MS in Botany. He was a program manager at Radford (VA) Munition Depot. After moving to Erie, PA, he worked as an administrator at Hamot Hospital. Later he became the CEO of the Regional Clinical Laboratory. After retirement, Alan drove a District 20 school bus, and supported his love of woodworking as a part-time employee of WoodCraft.

Alan was active in many civic and religious projects, both domestic and international. He served in leadership roles in numerous churches and community organizations. Alan immersed himself in many interests over the years. His last avid hobby was mastery of his computer and iPad.

Alan and Margaret moved to Colorado Springs in 1997 to live near and be an integral part of their grandsons' lives. After Margaret died in 2007, Alan married their long-time friend, Yvonne Rohrbaugh, in 2008. Together they continued the practice of hospitality, always with an open door and kind hearts.

Alan is survived by his loving wife, Yvonne, son Stephen (Kathy), daughter Barbara (Patrick), stepson Edward (Mary), and grandsons Kobi, Kaci and Kyle.

The people Alan met on his life's journey knew a man who was gentle, a good listener, very intelligent, and secure in his faith. He was firm in his convictions and beliefs, but always respected those of others. A friend to all, he was truly loved and respected.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 10 AM on April 18 at St. Patrick RC Church, 6455 Brookpark Dr., CS. A reception in the Fellowship Hall will follow.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent in Alan's memory to Pikes Peak Hospice, or Benet Hill Monastery.

Is his wife Evon still alive?

April 21, 2016

Dear Barb and Steve,
We sort of lost touch with the Rex family in recent years, but we will never forget the many good times we shared with Margaret and Alan as our families grew up together on Broce Drive. Those were the good ol' days. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Love, Peg Walker

I want to let Steve and Barbie know that my prayers are with them. I have very many fond memories of Alan as a child living on Broce Drive. At that time Margaret and Alan were like an Aunt and Uncle to me. Loving your family, Patty (Waker) Jordan

I will miss seeing Alan walking to the mailbox or coming out on the deck and chatting over the fence or enjoying a meal with he and Yvonne, What a kind, gentle, friendly man he was. Yvonne, Steve, Kathy, Kobi, Kaci, Kyle, Barbara and Patrick.....you have my deepest sympathy. I'm glad I got to know Alan. And I know how much deeper you knew and loved him. You'll all continue to be in my prayers.
