ALEXANDER FOTENOS Obituary

Called to heaven too soon, Alexander Dion Fotenos passed away just weeks before his 50th birthday on the evening of April 10th, 2020 from a very rare autoimmune disease. After fighting for several weeks, God brought Alex home. We will forever miss Alex's larger than life personality, laughter, and contagious smile - but know that his legacy lives on in the many people whom he touched.
Alex was born in 1970 to John and Chrysandra Fotenos at Fort Bragg, NC, before moving and settling down in Colorado Springs four years later. Growing up in Colorado Springs, Alex met some of his best friends as a kid and became a proud graduate of Palmer High School's Class of '88. Alex's journey then took him to the University of Northern Colorado, where he graduated with a business degree in 1992. Upon graduating from college, Alex moved back to Colorado Springs where he rekindled his relationship with his high school sweetheart, Tabatha, who he married in 1994 underneath the bell tower at Palmer High School. Shortly after, Alex and Tabatha started their family and raised three strong children Marcus (23), Drew (21), and Melina (18) whom he loved and respected.
As a devoted husband, father, son, and brother, family always came first to Alex, but he also cared for those he worked with. Right out of college, Alex began working in the printing industry at Current before transitioning to the yearbook business at Walsworth Publishing Company, where he worked with his father for nine years. During his time with Walsworth, he grew the company's presence in his territory and built meaningful relationships with his customers. In 2006, Alex joined Tabatha and her family at Tab Construction - a local, family-owned underground utilities and earthwork company. Alex's integrity, business mindset, and passion for his employees helped to build the company's exceptional reputation throughout the industry. To give back to the community, Alex coached his sons in youth football, hosted the Colorado Construction Career Days at Tab Construction for many years, and was an Advisory member to both Liberty High School's Career and Technical Education Committee and Doherty High School's Project Lead the Way. Alex also served as the President of the El Paso County Contractors Association.
Throughout his life, Alex exuded confidence, strength, and a passion for life and those around him. In addition to his wife and children, Alex is survived by his parents, sisters Amara and Alyssia and their families, his grandmother, many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews, and an abundance of colleagues and friends. From work to his poker buddies and golf club, Alex never knew a stranger and impacted the lives of so many. While we are heartbroken, we gain comfort in the wonderful memories we share of Alex and know that he continues to stand by our sides.
A memorial of his life will be held at a date that is yet to be determined. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Alex's honor to the Walt Disney Hometown Museum (120 E. Santa Fe, Marceline, MO 64658). The museum embodies the "Fotenos' Hometown" of Marceline, MO, where Alex made countless memories with his family.

What can I say I miss my best friend, my love and hugs go to his family which in part have become my family. I guess leave it to me to write a story...Everyone knows Alex was always there to help, I first met him when I transferred to Palmer from WP. He helped me get oriented and showed me around, we became friends from the first time we met. So fast forward some 25 plus years later, I ask Alex to help me move a couch from the side of the house to a trailer to dispose of. Mind you this couch had been there awhile. We picked it up thinking man this thing is heavy, as we moved it around to the front of the house and prepared to load it into the trailer for a trash run, two red beady eyes peered out from the couch. To our shock a racoon had been living in the couch and was quite upset to learn that his condo was being relocated. He jumped out onto the side walked, looked at Alex and I then hissed and scampered down the sidewalk. Alex and I laughed pretty hard thinking man that 40 pound trash panda could have caused us a trip to an ER. Thankfully no one got hurt and the couch was moved to the dump. Cold beers were on tap and we chuckled quite a bit. RIP my friend and just for you. GO BRONCOS!

Our heart breaks with the loss of Alex. He was such a bright, happy, funny man who deeply loved his family and was so very proud of them. I am so thankful we got to see him this past summer at the family reunion. He will be deeply missed but I know he'll always be in our hearts and watching over his family. We love you all.

I was heartbroken to hear of Alex's passing. We first met in grade school playing sports at Bon Park...we later coached our own kids against each other as adults. Always such a nice guy to be around. Blessings to the family during this difficult time.

When Melanie and Keri told me of the untimely passing of Alexander, I was so sorry for the Fotenos family. His wife and kids, father, mother and entire family. So young and with so much. If a family can help each other through this, it is the Fotenos family.

Coach Alex, as our family knew him made each of us feel valued and respected. Coaching with him was an honor, our sons respected him and how he treated all the teammates. His smile and kindness will be missed. It was such a pleasure to know him. Blessing to his dear family, whom he adored.

When I first met Alex he was in high school and he was just a guy that wasnt good enough for my cousin. They got married. I came to visit in college, he took me to a Broncos game, I was a little more impressed. A few years ago Marcus visited while in town for a convention and I saw it all come together. Alex was an amazing husband to my cousin, a role model of a father and just all around great guy. Gone far too soon, but I will be sure to thank God for the blessing of placing him in our family for the time we had. My love and prayers to Tab, the kids, John and Chrys. He made the world a better place and now it is our time to continue to honor and celebrate that.-Jason

We are deeply saddened by Alex's passing and will miss him greatly. We're so grateful that he joined our family and touched our lives forever. We're especially grateful for him being Tabatha's soul mate, bringing so much joy into her life, and serving as the rock upon which they built a wonderful family. Because he was loved so deeply, he is missed beyond comprehension our hearts go out to Tab, Marcus, Drew, Melina, John, Chrys, Amara and Alyssia.

To all of the Fotenos family I hurt with you and I want you to know that God is the master of comfort at this time and when you feel it hurts to much. Alex will be greatly missed, but God gained a true soldier. Psalms 23 ~ Adam Johnson and Colorado Springs Winwater Family

I remember Alex as a very active and joyful member of our Tejon Street community. He was always up for a game like "kick the can" or "capture the flag." All of our childhood memories and experiences were better for having had him in our lives. My condolences to his family, coworkers and friends.

John and Chrys, thank you for the gift of Alex. He lives on in this teacher's memory: his winning smile, his thoughtful enthusiasm and his eagerness to learn. With sympathy to his entire family.

I was deeply saddened to hear of Alex's passing. We grew up together along Tejon Street in Colorado Springs and I remember him as a joyful person - kind and fun to be with. He and I had many a battle in the paint during basketball practices at Palmer High School - through which I gained much respect for him as an athlete and as a good sport. My condolences to Alex's wife and children, to his mother and father, and to his sisters. Please know that I am thinking of you all. Love, George
