Andrew Dude Obituary

Andrew Stephen Dude died peacefully on October 1, 2014 in Colorado Springs. He was 25. Born on October 5, 1988 in Colorado Springs, he graduated from Cheyenne Mountain High School in 2007. Andrew obtained the rank of Eagle Scout and Order of the Arrow with Boy Scout Troop 1.

Andrew loved the outdoors, music and his cat, Whiskey. He loved to hike, camp and ski and listen to, and read about, his favorite band, the Beatles. He had a keen mind and amazed his friends with his ability to invent contraptions and figure out how things worked. He was an electronic wizard who intuitively knew how to connect and fix just about anything. He briefly worked as an audio technician and made several custom guitars before deciding to return to finish college in January and ultimately pursue a law degree. He was a kind, generous person with a gentle soul and loving heart who enriched the lives of all who knew and loved him. He will be terribly missed and never forgotten.

Andrew is survived by his parents Kelly and Cindy, brother Eric, grandfather Albert Carl Dude, Columbia, Missouri, aunts and uncles Carol and Joseph Stryhal, Dallas, Texas, Kim and Marc Lammy, Columbia, Missouri, Carla and Patrick Jones, Hampton Cove, Alabama; Bob Mace, of Springfield, Missouri and many cousins. He is also survived by his soul mate and love of his life, Valerie Farbman, of Atlanta, Georgia. He was preceded in death by his grandmothers, Jean Mace, Springfield, Missouri and Eleanor Dude, Columbia, Missouri and cousin Zachary Story, Plano, Texas.

Visitation will be between 3 and 5 p.m. on Saturday, October 4th at Swan Law Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Sunday, October 5th at 3 p.m. at All Souls Unitarian Universalist Church, 730 N. Tejon.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo or the Colorado Wolf and Wildlife Center, Divide, Colorado.

I cannot find the words to express my sorrow. Andrew was an amazing young man. He was so incredibly talented. He could sing, play the guitar and of course he could fix anything. He was an expert on so many things like the Beatles and JFK. I would love to have played trivial pursuit with him. But the best quality Andrew had was his heart. He cared so much for other people, especially his family. He loved his parents and his brother beyond words. He had such a special bond with his Grandpa and Grandma Dude. I can still see him sitting on Grandpa's lap with them both eating out of the same bowl of cereal. My heart is broken for Kelly, Cindy and Eric. Please know that you were the best parents and brother anyone could ever have. I feel confident Andrew is in heaven with his Grandmas and his cousin Zachary. We love you all and are here for you anytime.

Andrew,

In Arizona I remember watching in awe as you took Grandma and Grandpa Dude's old, broken Television set apart. You quickly fixed it and set it up in their golf cart. You then grabbed our swimming towels and draped them over the side to create our own little world. A little world where we could be whoever we wanted to be.

That night our little world consisted of watching "America's Most Wanted" and talking about how we would speed off in the golf cart and make the world a better place by catching all the bad guys.

Even though we never did speed off (we couldn't even reach the pedals), you definitely succeeded in making the world a better place. I always looked up to you and wanted to be like my big, older cousin.

You were so incredibly passionate. A characteristic I've always admired. Whether it was fixing and building absolutely anything, listening and creating music or caring for your loved ones, you did it with your whole heart.

You found beauty in everything. Even the old broken Television set sitting in Grandma and Grandpa Dude's garage. You had a way of breathing life into things that had long since been forgotten.

But the beauty you saw in everything else was unmatched by the beauty within you. Your beauty captivated us all and will continue to captivate us through our memories.

And now every time I look up at the sky I will hear the Beatles lyrics, “The sun is up, the sky is blue, it's beautiful and so are you” and I'll think of my beautiful cousin in the sky.

Love you so much, Andrew.

Kelly, Cindy, and Eric, my heart goes out to you during this very sad time. He and Matt were good friends and are now together again (with Matt's mom keeping an eye on them...) as well as with his family members who went before him. As you know, I know much of what you are going through and can only pray that you take each day as a new day to remember the good times and memories. If you ever want to talk, need a shoulder, or anything else, please call. I know there is nothing I can say to take the hurt away, but please know, I am praying for you!

I never met Andrew or his family before, but that doesn't make this any less painful for me or the love any less deep. He was an amazing, caring friend who I so badly wanted to met and share the rest of my life with. There was never anyone like him and there never will be. The only thing that gives me comfort during these extremely hard times is that Andrew is no longer in pain and that is soul is in heaven. I hope to one day meet his wonderful family, so that we can all be at least one step closer to Andrew. My heart and soul goes out to the Dude family.

To the one that remains,

There is something special about family. They get you, they understand what no one else can, they remain faithful and by your side through the journey of life. No matter how much they get to see each other, there is a special bond that cannot be replaced or broken.

Andrew, we were stuck together from birth. I don't think it's coincidence that we were the same age and had similar interests and ambitions. We were meant to be cousins, but more importantly, we were meant to be friends.

It's often hard to remember the memories. We spent most of our time together in the younger years, but, if I think hard enough, the impact and emotion that you touched my life with comes to the surface. It reminds me that every person in our life is important and makes us the people we are today. Thank you for being one of the few who have impacted me the most.

No matter where life takes me. The exciting times, the hard times, the new adventures, and the times that seem lonely...your memory will remain. You will always be with me.

I wish I could be there to say goodbye. I said a little prayer to God that you would be taken care of. I pray one day that we can meet again, and until then, know I will always love you...Andrew Stephen Dude.

I can only imagine heaven playing, "Here comes the sun" as you arrived. I bet you make it so much brighter <3
