Thank you all for remembering my Dad so fondly. He loved so many, so much and so deeply and it's been comforting to us to hear and see all the love he has received in return.

(Written the morning he passed.) This morning, my father-in-law, Tony Alfano. passed away, gently, and without pain. He came to live in our home two years ago. It was my idea, and some people thought I was crazy to invite him to live here.
I have always, always known him to be kind, thoughtful, generous, gentle and loving. Whenever he was talking to someone, he seemed to think only of how to make them laugh, relax and how to know them better. It has been my pleasure to have him accept our invitation and live here.
The last three months were difficult. His medical needs escalated dramatically. He had three hospital stays in a six week period. and about a month ago, he enrolled in hospice.
Another thing about him: a hugely optimistic attitude. After all those hospital stays, when discussing hospice, he looked out across the town, at people walking dogs and washing their cars, and said, "I'm healthier than all these people!" But he couldn't have washed a car or walked a dog if he had to do so, at that point... or even for the past two years. That strong attitude helped him survive renal cancer for seven years, beating some very long odds.
He will be missed. Saying that is only the tip of the iceberg. He will be missed immensely and constantly, and I hope that I am in some way a little bit like him. Tony Alfano was an exceptional man.
