Arthur Ferris Obituary

Ferris, Arthur L.
Dec. 25, 1919-Mar. 11, 2012

Arthur "Art" Leland Ferris was born December 25, 1919 in Pasadena, CA to Harry C. Ferris and Esther E. (Fuson) Ferris. He was the eldest of 4 children. He was educated in the Pasadena public school system and attended Woodury Business College in Los Angeles.

Art served in the Army for four years. He entered as a private and earned the rank of Captain. Art spent two years with the 6th Armored Division in Europe, where he served as the Deputy Finance Officer. He left the army in 1945, but remained active in the Army Reserve until 1959, when he retired as a Lt. Colonel.

In 1945, Art began a successful career with First Federal Savings & Loan of Altadena as a junior accountant and retired in 1984 as the CEO/Chairman of the Board of Republic Federal Savings & Loan. He was involved with many social and civic organizations, including the University Club of Pasadena, Altadena Town & Country Club, and the Altadena Rotary Club. He was always an active member of the Altadena Community Church.

In April 1946, Art met switchboard operator Elizabeth "Betty" Crehan. They married the following November. Together they raised 3 sons and 7 daughters in Altadena. Art and Betty moved to Redondo Beach in 1998. Art cited the many local family events and numerous road trips to visit out-of-state children and grandchildren as the highlight of his 30-year long retirement.

Art was preceded in death by his parents, siblings and 2 grandchildren. He is survived by his beloved wife Betty, his 10 children and their spouses, 38 grandchildren, and 20 great-grandchildren.

Art will always be with us. I am thankful that we were able to celebrate many occasions at home on Mar Vista and at the condo in Redondo. He was the consummate gentlemen. He will be missed, but will be watching over his loving family from Heaven!

We offer sincere condolences to Betty, the family and all his many friends in the Altadena, Pasadena Community.
Art was a man of action and a great guy.
He will be missed as will his wit and outlook on life.
May he rest in peace and perpetual light shine upon him and the work he did in the community and in the world.
God Bless!
