Brian Geddes Obituary

Brian N. Geddes passed away November 14, 2010. He is survived by his lovely daughter Amanda Mary Geddes-Smith; father Kenneth W. Geddes; sister Ann Geddes-Taylor; brother Bill Geddes; nieces Andrea Williams and Brynna Geddes; and nephews Grant Williams and Tyler Geddes. Brian's hobbies included photography, particularly wild flowers, landscape art, and old buildings. He also greatly enjoyed collecting rocks, Victor / Cripple Creek history, Colorado history, collecting mining artifacts, and old photographs He loved the outdoors, hiking and fishing. But his overwhelming passion was practicing law for his beloved clients, to which he dedicated 37 years and was assisted by his trusty legal assistant Karen Anderson for the last 27 years. In lieu of flowers you can make a contribution to your favorite charity. Among those you might choose are Dr. Lester Williams Fire Museum, Victor Elks Building Fund, Victor Lowell Thomas Museum or Pikes Peak Hospice and Palliative Care. A memorial service will be held at Grace Episcopal Church, 601 N. Tejon Street, Colorado Springs on Saturday, November 20, 2010 at 11:00 a.m., followed by a reception at church.

I knew Brian for over 30 years and worked extensively with him. We shared a common love and interest in an unusual subject: mining claims and mining law, particularly in Teller County, Colorado. I will miss him greatly and especially for all the conversations we had over the years on our common fascination for all things to do with the history of mining claims.

Amanda, Mr. Geddes, Bill and Ann,

I just now read about Brian's passing and I am so sorry for your loss. I'm truly at a loss for words. You have my deepest sympathies.

To Brian's Family and Friends:

Brian was counsel to the United States Cycling Federation during a tumultuous and transitional time. I was so fortunate to have his support and friendship while I served as President of the Federation.

I learned so much from Brian that still remains with me: respect for the law, the art and craft of negotiation, the necessity of having an "earnest advocate".

Some time ago, I am so pleased now to remember, I called Brian one night to tell him how long after we had finished our work together, I still appreciated his diligence, devotion, and ability.

We are all so blessed to have had Brian with us!

I met Brian but never knew him personally. But I knew him through the many praises sung by his sister (and my sister-in-law), Ann. She often described this multi-faceted brother with his many interests and hobbies and his love of the the great Colorado outdoors. I discovered his satirical humor through his comical and politically provocative emails forwarded to me by my brother, Gary. And finally, I see through these memorable photos a father who dearly loved his daughter. What a lovely and fascinating man. Easy to understand why so many came to honor him this morning. My sincere condolences to all the Geddes family.

Amanda, Brian was the most wonderful neighbor and friend that anyone could wish for! My wife, Sharon, and I felt so blessed to have him as a friend next door to us. Your Dad was such a special person, and his life was made complete with you! Even during his ordeal, his conversations & emails were about you and how proud he was of you and your new teaching job! We pray that you will be blessed by good memories and comforted by the promise of our Savior Jesus.

Mr Geddes hired me, almost 20 years ago, when I was a high school student. I was his office assistant and he always treated me so kindly. I even got to drive his new car to the car wash! I'll never forget getting a "Christmas bonus" of 100 dollars!! I'm so sorry for his family's loss. He was a class act.

Amanda.. Jeff and I have been laughing for the memories and crying for the loss. Your dad was a very, very special person in our lives. As Jeff's roommate in Boulder we were all together most every day, and there was always an EVENT. Traveling to Victor on the weekends with your mom and dad was truly a highlight of our college days. Parties and jokes and tons of laughter fill our memories now, and all of those totally filled our lives back then. We spent so many hours planning our lives and how fast it has gone ... and now we plan to go on without him.
YOU were the highlight of your dad's life as we all really did grow up and mature into resposible adults. Oh how happy and proud he was of you. We loved him and will miss him so very much. Please know we send you our love and strength in the days to come. Jane and Jeff Boulter
