Carol Garrard Obituary

Carol Weege Garrard, age 67, of Elbert County, Colorado, died on May 21, 2017. She was born

Carol was born on August 19, 1949 in Colorado Springs, Colorado to George and Frances Weege. She grew up in the Old North End neighborhood called Roswell, attended Corpus Christi School, and graduated from St. Mary's High School in 1967.

Carol first met Ed Garrard on a blind date a week before her eighteenth birthday and just prior to entering Colorado College. They married on September 4, 1970. While military duties sent Ed overseas, Carol stayed at home to complete her Bachelor of Arts degree, specializing in Elementary Education at Colorado College in June 1971. Carol then rejoined Ed in Japan, where she immediately began teaching kindergarten. With various military duty assignments, the couple lived in numerous locations, expanded their family with two daughters, and finally settled in Grapevine, Texas. There, Carol excelled for more than twenty-six years, teaching elementary education in a variety of roles, with her favorite being Art Education for all elementary grades. She was also a perpetual student herself, both of life and the classroom, and completed a Master of Arts in Humanities degree at Southern Methodist University in December 1999.

She enjoyed cooking, photography, creating artwork in many forms, and traveling. Carol's true love and passion was for her family. Carol was always present for her husband, children, and grandchildren, in ways big and small, ensuring that each of them knew that they were unique and special to her.

Carol is preceded in death by her older daughter, Amanda, in 1997, and by her father, George W. Weege, in 2013.

Carol is survived by her husband of forty-six years, Ed; daughter, Megan; son-in-law, Nai Kang; three grandsons, Edward, Thomas, and William; her brother, William "Bill"; her mother, Frances Pitinga Weege, age 95; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Visitation, 8:00AM-9:00AM, followed by a Funeral Mass at 9:00AM, Thursday, June 1, 2017 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 2318 North Cascade Avenue, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80907.

Graveside Service, 1:00PM, Thursday, June 1, 2017 at the U.S. Air Force Academy Cemetery.

My heartfelt sympathies go out to the family and friends during this difficult time. I hope that the promise in 1 Thessalonians 4:14 can bring comfort. Knowing that there's a hope for the ones we have lost in death can be so reassuring.
