Carolyn Alice Templin
1933 - 2016
Carolyn Alice Templin, nee Schwartz 83, died unexpectedly in Colorado Springs, CO on December 16, 2016. The heartbreak she has left behind has not eased in the year since her loss.
Loving mother of Carolyn Jeanne (Mitch) Alter, and Geri-Ellen (Stephen) Dow; grandmother to Maida (Eloy) Millis, Rebecca (Kevin) Rodgers, Jacqueline (Steven) Tankersley, Kathleen and Nathan Dow; great grandmother to Shira, Iris, Sarah, Elfreida, Adam and Hailey, and dear friend to the Ashmore family.
Born September 4, 1933, in Chicago, Illinois to Jacob Jerome Schwartz and Elfreida Ossman Schwartz she graduated from Senn High School then earned her BA in Education at the University of Illinois (Urbana-Champaign), a Masters of Education at the National College of Education, and became a Certified Public Accountant in 1987.
She started teaching in the Chicago Public Schools in the 1960s, first at Gregory School, then for 18 years at Portage Park. She loved her students, connecting with many of them again through the Portage Park Schoolyard Facebook group. In 2015 she attended a reunion in Chicago with her Portage students which was one of the most meaningful events of her life.
We miss her profoundly.
