In Loving Memory of a Charles (Chuck) Maerten III
A Life Well Lived
It is with great sorrow and profound gratitude that we announce the passing of a beloved brother, father, and grandfather after a short battle with cancer. A man of remarkable kindness, wisdom, and strength, he touched the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Born in a time when life was simpler yet harder, he grew up with values of resilience and compassion that remained deeply rooted throughout his life. Born May 1, 1937, in Riverside, NJ to Charles Maerten Jr and Marie Josephine (Zimmerman) Maerten, Chuck went on to graduate Camden Catholic Highschool in 1954 before joining the Unites States Air Force in 1955 and retiring after 22 years of dedicated service. While station in Germany, Chuck met and fell in love with Annegret "Ann" Maerten (Harrs) in 1959. They soon welcomed their only child, Susanne Halcomb. During his military service, Chuck traveled far and wide to Japan, Greenland, and Thailand.
After retiring in Colorado Springs, Chuck went on to have several more careers working for local well-known companies such as Cheers Liquor Mart, and national companies such as Budweiser and Toyota before finally fully retiring and spending countless hours on the golf courses and traveling the country with Ann. In the most recent years Chuck maintained an active social life with regular breakfast and lunch dates with friends, and several days a week spent playing cards.
Chuck was not merely a son, brother, father, and grandfather but a mentor, confidant, and friend. His infectious heartwarming stories enriched countless family gatherings and left indelible memories. His unwavering support and gentle guidance were always a source of comfort and encouragement to his loved ones.
As we honor his legacy, we remember his ability to turn challenges into lessons and transform fleeting moments into lifelong treasures. His love will remain a guiding light in our lives, and his legacy will continue in the values he instilled in us.
He is survived by his loving daughter Susanne, granddaughter Morgan, brothers Robert and John, and extended family who will miss him dearly but will forever cherish the memories of his unwavering love and strength.
While our hearts ache with his departure, we celebrate the extraordinary life he led, one filled with love, laughter, and an unyielding spirit.
Rest in peace, dear Chuck. You will forever be missed, but never forgotten.
A celebration of life will be held on July 12th, from 12pm-2pm at the club house of La Cresta Mobile Estate located at 205 N. Murray Blvd, Colorado Springs, CO 80917.

Chuck was a great friend and we shared many emails through the years. Served with him in USAFSS and the 604th comm Sq. I will miss talking with him and sharing many stories. He was one year older than me and a super person. I retired from USAF in in 1976 and retired from Manatee Sheriffs Office in August 2025. I will miss our talks through the years. Jim Brand

My heart goes out to all you! Chuck was an amazing man. I consider him a dear friend and colleague. He always made sure to stop in and say hello when he came to Toyota. He will be missed as Anne is also. Together they are again. Deepest Sympathy to all. Pam @Toyota

I met Chuck through his grandson Michael who was my trainer when I first joined the military! I really enjoyed talking with Chuck and listening to his stories and his guidance he had. It has been a pleasure to get to know you and learn things from you over the years. May you rest in peace and continue to watch over your family and friends like Ann has watched over you and everyone!

Susanne as the days and weeks pass, and as you return to life's routine, may you continue to feel comforted by the love and support of family and friends.

Chuck and I met through his late grandson Mike. Even after we lost Mike, Chuck and I remained friends. I enjoyed talking with Chuck as he always had an easy way of putting life and current events into perspective. His insights and life outlook was very much inline with mine. Even though we were almost 50 years apart in age. I will miss you dear friend! Hope you and Ann hold a spot for us.
