Clarence Povelite Obituary

Clarence James Povelite passed away April 8, 2015. He was born in Eureka, California on February 28, 1925 to Emil Gustave Povelite and Lavern (nee Stith) Povelite.

He grew up in Oakland, CA , graduating from Oakland Technical High School in 1943 and immediately volunteering for the Army since we were in the midst of WWII. He served in New Caledonia, Leyte and Luzon in the Phillipines, New Guinea and then was among the first troops into Tokyo after the surrender. After the war and a brief stint in civilian life, he reentered the Army and had tours in the Army of Occupation in both Italy and again in Tokyo. He also served here in Colorado, San Francisco and Louisiana.

After retiring in 1964 he went to work in Denver as a salesman for The Colorado Beverage CO and eventually became the Colorado Springs branch manager for that company.

In 1976 he and wife Roberta opened a new business for Colorado Springs, the Colorado Springs Ice and Cold Storage CO. which they ran successfully until they sold it in the mid l980's.

Jim then enjoyed working around his house, woodworking, golf and fishing and hunting. The two of them did a lot of traveling both in the states and abroad.When his three sons were growing up he was very active in the Boy Scouts of

America. He was a charter member of The Rampart Range Kiwanis Club and later became a member of the Pikes Peak Kiwanis Club.

Survivors, along with wife Roberta are sons Jeffrey and David and daughters Jannine Yurkoski and Laurel Kunesh. They lost son Andrew in 1993. Also surviving are grandchildren Michael and Daniel Yurkoski, Jonathan Povelite, Natalia and Laine Povelite, Bristol, Arin and Avery Underwood, and Piper and Reece Kunesh.

Memorial services will be held at Vista Grande Community Church, 5460 No. Union Blvd., Colo. Springs on

Saturday, April 18, 2015 at 1:00pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to Vista Grande Community Church or to a charity of ones choice in his memory.
