Dixie Armstrong Obituary

Dixie Kinner Armstrong; a member of this nation's two earliest families. Her ancestry is traced to Rufus Clark, a signer of the Mayflower compact, and John Kinner, who was a merchant seaman and an 1700's estate owner on Stanton Island. Dixie's great, Great Grandfather Henry Guire settled Monument, Colo. Her Great Grandfather Kinner's home in Perry Park is a Registered National Historic site. Active in 4-H for ten years, Dixie won national recognition awards, including the National girl's achievement winner in 1951 and the Santa Fe leadership prize awarded by President Truman. While in high school in the late 1940s, Dixie helped set up the Production and Marketing Administration for El Paso County. She graduated from Palmer High School in Colorado Springs in 1951. While attending Colorado A& M (now CSU), Dixie wrote a by-line column "College Days" for the Colorado Springs News. Dixie graduated from University of Denver and became a school teacher, before becoming a full-time antiques dealer in 1969. Dixie is survived by her loving husband James of 44 years, 3 sons (Lowell, Brian and William), daughter Michelle, and 7 grandchildren.

Jim and family,

I'm so sorry to hear of Dixie's death. I would have been privileged to have attended her services, but wasn't able to come. Jerry has shared with me about the services. Love, Marty Kinner Wisner
