August 26, 1945

February 24, 2022

February 24, 2022 marked the passing of Donna Rombeck of Colorado Springs to be with the Lord after an illness of pancreatic cancer.

She will be remembered for the sweet, wonderful, caring, and loving spirit she embodied as a wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, relative, friend and neighbor.

Donna was born in Trinidad, Colorado, on August 26, 1945, to Clara (Hoskins) and John Monteleone. Donna graduated from Trinidad Catholic High School, Trinidad State Junior College in Trinidad, Colorado, and received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education from Adams State College in Alamosa, Colorado. She began her career as an educator with Harrison District No. 2 in Colorado Springs, CO, after her graduation in 1967. She married the love of her life, Gary, to whom she was devotedly married for over 52 years. They have one wonderful son, John, and daughter-in-law Natasha whom she loved deeply. She dedicatedly and lovingly taught fourth grade at Stratton Meadows Elementary School for 34 years and retired in the year 2000. After her retirement, she continued to substitute and teach as a Student Interventionist. She loved seeing and hearing from her former students. "Once a teacher . . . always a teacher".

She enjoyed her travels with her husband, Gary, throughout the United States and exploring Italy, Sicily, England, Wales, Ireland, and Scotland for ancestral family. She enjoyed compiling thematic photo albums from her trips, of her family, her students and friends. She loved writing books about her son, John, and writing other children's books for nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews, and other special children. Compiling family histories, making jewelry, and reading were her focused pastimes. She also loved cooking Sunday meals for and visiting with John and Natasha. She enjoyed all of her Grand Dogs and especially loved being with, Lily. She loved antique shopping, walking with special friends, and going to dinner with special friends.

She had a deep faith in the Lord and displayed a warm loving manner to all those around her. She was a member of Sacred Heart Parish.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Clara Monteleone and her sister, Sandy Gagliardi. She is survived by her husband, Gary, her son and his wife, John and Natasha Rombeck, sister, Frances Monteleone of Trinidad, CO, her brother, John Ronald and Jeanette Monteleone of Trinidad, CO, and, Jim Gagliardi of Livermore, CA. She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews and their families. She is also survived by many other loving family members and the dearest of friends.

My favorite teacher I´ve ever had. She was my 4th grade teacher at Stratton Meadows. I´m 34 now. I think about her all the time. I wish I would´ve reached out earlier. I had no idea. I would accidentally call her mom all the time in class cause that´s how great she was.

My sincere condolences. Mrs. Rombeck was my favorite teacher at Stratton Meadows, she taught me so many things in fourth grade, her kindness and compassion are what I remember most. She always greeted us with a beautiful smile each morning and offered hugs when we needed them. So many wonderful memories I have of my amazing teacher.
